My bro just gave me a cd of 80's hairbands doing xmas songs. Couple cool ones of note are Danger Danger doing "Naughty, Naughty Christmas". A festive little play on their hit. Also, Firehouse "Christmas With You". I love Faster Pu**ycat, but Taime Downe version of "Silent Night" ain't even close to the original. It's pretty scary.

Any Xmas song requests? For the 2004 releases, the time is now (like in the next 20 days).
So far, TimD has already sent us some "Twisted" nominees. For 2004, we would like to do 2 Pop type discs - 1 Male, 1 Female, then combine them into a Star. Also, a Country Star disc, and a Twisted Spotlight (assuming there are enough songs).
Thanks for any helpful suggestions.

Thanks, Lonnie, for bringing up that thread from last winter. Lots of good requests in there. So bringing up a few from there..
All I Want For Chistmas Is A real Good Tan - Kenny Chesney
Ho, Ho, F-ing Ho, Kevin Bloody Wilson
I think as a joke you should put that barking dogs Jingle Bells on there, and I bet it would be most tried of any song on that disc LOL.

Barking Dogs, Why not, I get a guy who puts up Alley Cat (no vocals or words) & plays to the song. It is actually pretty funny. It could be like the bonus track of the Twilight Zone music on the Halloween disc.

thanks, bc!!! here are my suggestions (consolidated from my prior posts)!
for the "Twisted" CDG:
Christmas Rappin' - Kurtis Blow Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin' - Albert King Santa Claus Is Back In Town - Johnny Lang
for the "Pop Male" CDG:
Celebrate Me Home - Kenny Loggins Little Drummer Boy - Myron My Favorite Things - O.M.D. I Saw Three Ships - Sting This Christmas - Dru Hill What Are You Doing New Year's Eve - Bobby Caldwell (with Boney James) Merry Christmas, Baby - Charles Brown
for the "Pop Female" CDG:
The Christmas Song - Toni Braxton Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - Yolanda Adams O, Holy Night - B.G.O.T.I. (from Death Row Records' Christmas cd...Mariah Carey stole it from them and recorded it herself. Mariah might be better known, but this Death Row version is way better) Christmas Time Is Here - Sixpence None The Richer (i think you might need a real cello for this one) The Christmas Song - India Aire & Stevie Wonder (from last year's GAP tv commercial; it'd be good to have a couple of christmas duets)
thanks, bc! i can't wait for these discs to come out!

All I know is that I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
P.S.- Anyone interested in the Kevin Bloody Wilson songs: Go to Google Search. Type in "Kevin Bloody Wilson". You can also find his CD's on Amazon.com
BC- if you haven't listened to the CD yet, you REALLY need to. "Santa's F***in' Roadies" is absolutely to die for.

Probably can't fit into any of these catagories, but the Danger Danger and Firehouse songs would be nice to have. As for the Twisted Xmas disc, Kevin Wilson's "Ho Ho F*ing Ho" would work nicely.

There was a Proclaimers parody on the radio a few years ago, but I'm not sure if it was just a local thing or not. Went something like "I would walk 500 malls, and I would shop 500 stores.."

Yes, it came out on the last Twisted Holiday Hits (Vol. 2), which off the top of my head is 8780, but I might be off on that disc number.

Twisted Christmas songs Vol 3 need Adam Sandler!!!!
1. "Davey's Song" -- Adam Sandler 2. "At The Mall" -- Adam Sandler (featuring Kevin Grady) 3. "Patch Song" -- Adam Sandler 4. "Long Ago" -- Adam Sandler, Alison Krauss, and "8 Crazy Nights" Cast (featuring Betsy Hammer, James Barbour, and Allen Covert) 5. "Technical Foul" -- Adam Sandler 6. "Intervention Song" -- Adam Sandler and "8 Crazy Nights" Cast with Peter Dante, Tyra Banks, Carl Weathers, Ellen Albertini-Dow, Richard Page & Ann Wilson (featuring Cole Sprouse, Jillian Sandler, Jared Sandler, Lari Friedman, Tom Kenny, Kevin Farley & Blake Clark) 7. "Bum Biddy" -- Adam Sandler and "8 Crazy Nights" Cast with Alison Krauss, Lainie Kazan, Chance Langton and Jason Housman (featuring Singing Townspeople) 8. "The Chanukah Song Part 3" -- Adam Sandler (featuring the Drei-Dels)
there are a grip of great Christmas songs out there still to be done!
I'll be editing this once I get my collection back from a friend (3 Case Logics full o' Christmas cheer!)
however:
Sting- "Gabriel's Message" (if the synth part can be duplicated, this eerie yet powerful piece is SO cool to sing!)
John Popper - "Christmas"
Ray Charles and Betty Carter - "Baby It's Cold Outside" (I Love Dean Martin's rendition, but it just don't compare to this duet! My number two request, since Number One got put on the last Christmas disc- Thanks BC!)
more suggestions to come...
Oh, I may have missed it somewhere, but is Adam Sandler's "Hannukah Song" out there on SC somewhere?

OK, I see lots of requests that we are in the process of doing.
We're doing a Male Pop Star, a Female Pop Star (combo'd into a Spot), a Country Star and a Twisted Spot. That's 39 new songs, so please understand that we took what we thought would have the broadest appeal. (Although with the Twisted songs, that's somewhat subjective.) As well, we addressed specific songs in styles that may not be available in the karaoke community.

On another topic, I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with the Temptations version of "Silent Night"?
There are actually 2 completely different versions - the first is fairly pedestrian, even lame (originally released in 1970). But the second, on "The Best Of The Temptations - The Christmas Collection" is a soul music tour-de-force (originally released in 1980, with one of the reconstituted versions of the Temptations) - right out of the black, gospel church.
The original recording has 3 Lead Vocal parts on different verses - a falsetto in the 1st verse, a tenor in the 2nd verse (classic soul riffing), the late, great unbelievable basso-profundo, Otis Williams, on the 3rd verse, and then back to the tenor for the last parts (in which he riffs against the falsetto singer who is doing the traditional “silent night, holy night”).
Now... we could encode the lyric wiping as just a generic "Male Vocal", or we could identify each part, and have 3 different colors for Male 1, 2 and 3. My instinct says do the one color, and let the singer go with the soulful arrangement – and ignore the different singers. (For instance, if Michael McDonald or Clay Aiken was going to cover this particular arrangement, he would just sing the song all the way through in his own style/voice.)
But for karaoke, we've always been in the habit of identifying each vocal part. IF we do that, will that inhibit individual karaoke singer from trying this song?
Or will folks be imaginative/bold enough to just sing it (in their own style)?

That's a tough one. As a kj, I've recently a few guys who would sing both males on "Beer For My Horses" as two 'distinct' voices and do it well. But for that particular song, I would assume most would sing it as one, like Clay. SC produces the best product on the market. Detail is important to them (See-Sell More Beer thread). I think this is a great question and look forward to the responses. I say do the three way color idea. I'd try it that way. Thanks

I too vote for the three color format. Let the singer decide how he/she wants to do it. Plus it gives you the option of the three parts for when the group comes up to sing.

I have to agree with the three color scheme, which will make it easier for a group to do, and still gives a single singer a chance to do any or all the parts as they seem fit. Hey, I even do Get Low solo (of course the crowd helps out now and again).

Would it be a bitch to to both versions a one person version - then a 3 part version - "bonus track" if it would allow.

yes, you are right...the 2nd version of the temptations' "silent night" is way better than the original one. the second version features the temptations minus eddie kendricks & david ruffin, but it's the version that you hear on the radio each year.
i'll refer to each soloist's voice by name: i agree that it would work best to do a separate color for each lead vocal, including melvin franklin's deep bass solo. there's also a part toward the end where dennis edwards (tenor) is ad-libbing on top of glenn leonard's falsetto of "silent night..holy night"......i think the falsetto during that part of the song should be done by your background singer, with the ad-libbing wiped in color.
i tried to do the temptations' "psychadelic shack" by myself with all of the myriad lead vocals, and i had a great time with it....people who didn't know the song had no idea what i was trying to do, but certainly those that knew how the song goes could really appreciate my effort.
i'm glad that you are doing this song. it's definitely been oft-requested by my singers, although i'm embarrassed to admit that i didn't include it in my own list of candidates for this disc. :-(
