The strangest thing happenned on Friday. Our city's top rated "Easy Rock" station went all holiday music all the time. I don't normally listen to this station (I listen to the one that bills themselves as "80's, 90's and whenever"), but my wife does at her office, and is royally ****ed now LOL. I love Christmas, but jeez, there is only so much Christmas music you can listen to, especially this far out LOL

Dan, the same thing happened here in Charlotte - twice in the past 5 weeks!
First, on November 1st, the lowest rated station in its "Light Rock" format, folded the tent, let all their on-air talent go, and went straight to pre-recorded, no DJ, Xmas music. Apparently, Management figured they could finish last in the ratings without the overhead.
Then, about two weeks ago, another low rated "Light Rock/Easy Listening" station did the same thing - canned the on-air talent and went straight to all Xmas programming.
They can crow all they want about expanded productivity and a big economic growth rate in this upcoming 'election' year - the proof is in the pudding. More 'happy-happy-jingle bells-Xmas' music doesn't change the facts that business is tough, and money is tight.

We have a station that has been doing that the last couple years from Thanksgiving to New Years - All X-Mas music from every genre ever recorded, which is kind of nice when you need to get your fix or entertaining.

Yeah, I can see a low rated station doing something like that, but this is the number one station in our market of 9 commercial stations. I can't see them gearing up for a format change, and they haven't let anyone go either. They bill themselves as a "listen at work station", but many of the businesses I deliver to have switched.
I'm hearing from people that Christmas is getting too overboard this year. The malls are decorated the day after Halloween, our Santa Claus parade was November 8th, and then a radio station is playing holiday music non-stop before the end of November? (Hell, we still have golf courses open here, although I wouldn't want to be on one today LOL) It seemed for a few years that Christmas was being toned down out of some stupid political correctness. Maybe this is a whiplash effect of that LOL

Wasn't Thanksgiving moved to the fourth Thursday in November to accomodate holiday shopping by some president, FDR or someone?
Now, it seems to keep creeping earlier, hey, in a couple of years, we might see a get a jump on the holiday season Veteran's Day 10-hour sale. If I do remember, I saw Christmas stuff out on October 31st this year.
But anyway, looking forward to doing "I Am Santa Claus" (might even do it for a contest) and "12 Days" by Bob & Doug...and some others soon.

Here would be an interesting theme Songs Mama Wouldn't Allow At Christmas. I'm sure there are enough out there to make a full Spotlight or a Star at least.

add the san francisco/oakland radio market to the 24-hour christmas format...
...we have two stations that no one ever listened to cranking up non-stop christmas music. the songs got to be a little stale at first, but i must admit they've freshened it up with some pretty interesting offerings.
one of these stations started the christmas music 3 weeks before halloween (no lie!), and the other cranked up the first week of november.
hey, how about:
What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" - Bobby Caldwell (with Boney James)....Nancy Wilson's version is pretty good, too.

I'll second the "Ho Ho F**& Ho". I only remember a short version, as part of an email cartoon or something, but it's hilarious.

No more Christmas discs!!!!! It is a waste of time, money, discs, imagination, studio time, sales, etc. etc. People only sing off a "Christmas Disc" a day or two before Christmas. Believe me I know, been a KJ for nine years now. After that the stupid disc sits in my collection and rots for another year. I would like to see Sound Choice produce, and use their talents, in a much more profitable way, such as the many thousands of songs that are requested by KJ's on this site everyday. We as KJ's request these songs, because our customers want to sing them. I don't see a big market for Silent Night, or a weird Al parody, that will be sung once a year. What I would like to see is more attention paid to the troops(The KJ's in this forum)and help them get the songs they request, instead of the same 'ol "It's not marketable" B.S.For instance, the Pink Floyd issue, c'mon, you'll spend 28.00 for a Christmas disc, over a PF disc? How about a Easter disc, or a Barney disc, or better yet, another TV themes disc? C'mon S.C. get it together!! We are the people buying your product. All we ask for, and sometimes beg for, is music our patrons want to sing, not another holiday disc.

Newsflash. You aren't the only KJ with experience here. You are green around the ears compared to the experience many KJ's on here have. It's highly insulting to the people on this thread to say we are wasting our time asking for songs we want to have. SC can judge by the sales of their previous discs whether they think another is in order.
Based on the shows I've been at the last 4 weekends, people like to sing Christmas songs. 5 years from now, Twisted Holiday Hits 1 and 2 as well as the regular Christmas CDG's will still be used for their month. That won't be the case for many of the current hit music discs.

Well i'm not sure about any other KJ here, but my clubs have had Christmas music sung every night since Thanksgiving & get requests for new X-mas songs nightly (at least once per night) this time of year. Believe me I know....this has been going on in the 13 years i've working in the karaoke business. But I also promote the Christmas songs as well putting a separate Holiday sheet in the front of the books with only the Christmas listings. It's grown from 1 page to 4 pages & like I said still getting requests for more & before anyone says anything, YES almost every one of the songs get sung between that time period between Thanksgiving & Christmas. They are listed throughout the year in the regular section & occasionally someone sings one for fun say at 4th of July.
Good list singing fool. There are many on that I get requests for as well.

I get plenty of xmas singers after Thanksgiving also. People love the twisted xmas disc and the xmas songs performed by famous singers such as Elton, Bon Jovi and Madonna. Not too many just "traditionals".

Wow, i don't think it matters how long you've been a KJ to know what you would like to have. sure is nice that i have a CHOICE OF MY OWN and don't need to stick by what you want. if you don't want xmas discs, then just don't order them. If you want the things you are wanting ......then you have the right to ask for them. just like we all have the right to ask for what we would like. Although, wanting and having are two different things, aren't they?
