In a previous post, I promoted Savatage, an awesome progressive metal band, and spoke of other bands that seem to get overlooked for whatever reason (lack of exposure, etc), but failed to get into them since I went off on such a tangent with Savatage.

So this post will be to promote the addition of more Type O Negative songs into the wonderful world of karaoke.

Now when I say more, I am acknowledging the two songs that have been released (One is on Sound Choice, I know, but I am not sure who released the other one).

Anyway, "Pictures Of Matchstick Men" is a fine tune, but it features Ozzy on vocals, so it almost fails to be perceived as TON song. The other song that is available, "All Hallow's Eve" is a prime example of what I'd like to see more of from this band to be avilable on karaoke.

The latter track comes from the "World Coming Down" album, which features other excellent tunes;
01. White Slavery
02. Pyretta Blaze
03. Everyone I Love Is Dead
04. Everything Dies

However, I feel that more karaoke-friendly tunes can be found on "October Rust", the most commercial of all their releases (don't get me wrong, this album is still kicks ass as much as any other, but it does have a more commercial flavor to it).
Songs would include;
01. Love You To Death
02. Be My Druidess
03. The Green Man
04. Christmas Mourning (Red Water)
05. Wolf Moon
06. Haunted
07. My Girlfriend's Girlfriend -a must!
08. Cinnamon Girl -another must!!
The last two tracks are a nice ideal 4 minutes each, a rarity for Type O, whose tunes tend to run as long as 10 minutes.

Other good tunes can be found on the "Bloody Kisses" albums (there are two versions of this release);
01. Christian Woman
02. Summer Breeze
03. Little Miss Scare-All (Black No 1) -this will have to be condensed from its 11 minute version!
04. Blood & Fire
05. Suspended In Dusk -perfect for Halloween!

Type O is quite renowned for their cover versions of other artist's songs.
In addition to the Seals & Croft cover of "Summer Breeze" from "Bloody Kisses" and Neil Young's hit "Cinnamon Girl" from "October Rust", not to mention the medley of some popular Beatles tunes which can be found on the "World Coming Down" album, they have also done some killer renditions of Black Sabbath songs;
01. "Paranoid"
is a slower and longer interpretation, but it is fantastic. Plus the two versions of "Black Sabbath";
02. (with the original lyrics)
03. (with new lyrics, from Satan's perspective)
These are phenomenal, and seem to stay true to the original arrangement... only darker and creepier!

Other selections are rather controversial, and will probably have to be saved for a nasty songs disc. The kind of stuff that warrants the "for those who are easily offended" warning.
Anyway, these would be found on the first album "Slow Deep & Hard";
01. The Natural Beauty Of Infidelity -this track runs over 12 mins long, but a lot of instrumental parts can be cut for a less lengthy version
02. I'll Kill You Tonight -nasty title, but good song
03. Hey Peter -a slightly modified cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe", usually the band plays this one inserted halfway thru "I'll Kill You Tonight", sort of as an interstitial, but stands well on its own too.

This concludes my Type O Negative pitch.
Any TON fans, back me up, and submit your favorite tracks!!

Only one request for W T WASP - could you make your history lessons just a bit smaller, or break them up - make it easier on those you don't know the band. Just a suggestion.
Break it down to a few songs at a time, give people time to digest some of it.

Sorry Woody... I admit to being rather long-winded when it comes to this sort of thing. Give me a topic I have any interest in and I will go on forever. (The Energizer Bunny has nothin on me)

I didn't realise how long it was til after the fact and did not feel like re-typing into seperate posts.

In future, I will try to be more brief.

Well, "Black No 1" and "Christian Woman" are really not that surprising, as they run 11 minutes and 9 minutes respectively, and it would be a sin to edit too much out of these gems (not to mention, I did these songs straight form the CD, and the overall tempo is just a little slow, and kills a party atmosphere like nobody's business... unless of course, the crowd consists of Type O fans! LOL)

However, "Cinnamon Girl" should have been in without question. Not only does it come pre-packaged in a nice 4 minute form, it is a cover of a Neil Young song that at least stands a chance of recognition by the crowd.

Another goodie would be "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend", just for its upbeat tempo and under 4 minute running time.

Oddly enough, "All Hallow's Eve" is available (on a SC Halloween disc).

No need to apoligize, just was saying it might be a little easier on people's eyes if they didn't have sooooooooo much to read, makes me feel like I got to study.

The length of the song wouldn't bother me.
Heck I don't know how many times I have to listen to American Pie or On Bourbon, One Scotch and a Beer. The radio station here where I live has Christian Woman edited down to about 5 minutes and it still sounds good.

Yes, I suppose the length isn't gonna be the determining factor for what songs make it to karaoke.

I hear ya, alienboy, I don't know how many times I hear "American Pie", and every time, I cringe (usually cos the person who picks it can't sing to save their life, and thus it's all the more painful).

But that is what popularity will gain you, I guess. Regardless of running time, lyrical content/subject matter, or genre/music style, if enough people are able to go "Oh, I know this tune..", then the karaoke doors are wide open.

Kinda sucks for bands like Type O, Savatage, and King Diamond... practically unheard of, and whatever does get the good fortune of hitting CDG, it will be subject to analysis for edits and other modifications.

I think I have heard the 4½ minute version of "Christian Woman"... good, but it is only part 1 ("Body Of Christ")... parts 2 & 3 are so cool though ("To Love God" & "Jesus Christ Looks Like Me"), that it is almost a sin to leave them out.

Oh well.. that's just my opinion.

Here's hoping that anything, however obscure, which is able to find its way to CDG, will retain its entirety and integrity as much as possible.
