The CATE BROTHERS!?!?!?!? Does that make you an Okie (sorry to be profiling), or just a blue-eyed soul fan of good music.
While they would be a personal fave of mine, Mark, I don't think I have any 'chart' justification to do their songs. But it felt really good to see their name, and remember that groove. That brings back memories of when rock used to really soak up R&B and gospel, only electrified and loud. How about Delaney & Bonnie, Joe Cocker (the last survivor), J.J. Cale, Rita Coolidge with the Dixie Flyers, Tony Joe White, and Leon Russell (still gets out there, with some kind of rock'n'roll gospel tent show - kind of like that Steve Martin/Debra Winger movie, only on a much smaller production scale).
Those were the halcyon days of southern influenced, gospel drenched Rock and Soul. I truly love that music, but I can't see justifying the expense vs. return for karaoke. But it's been fun playing that joyful noise back in my mind.

First off, no I'm not an Okie (is that where they were from? I knew they were from down South, but didn't know exactly where!). I'm from Cleveland, and I still have my original 45 of "Union Man", although it is a little shopworn considering that I really didn't know how to handle records then. Now that I spring considerable amounts for stuff at record conventions, I've learned to be a little more careful! As for chart positions, I'm pretty certain that "Union Man" made the Billboard Top 25 or Top 30, which is more than I can say for "New Orleans Ladies" by Louisiana's LeRoux, which only made it to #59 at Billboard! Doesn't that take a little wind out of your sails regarding chart positions?
Best,
Mark

Well, Brian, if J.J. Cale was ever in Poco, I think that would be news to him and the boys in Poco.
But "Magnolia" was a good song. What was the Cale song that Clapton covered, "Cocaine"? J.J. had a moment there where several of his songs got covered by national acts. Maybe we could do a disc of laid-back blues-rock.

I've been looking for the song 'Honestly' by Stryper for awhile now. Can't find it anywhere. Here a few that I'd like to get on SoundChoice. They are mostly 80's though.
Never - Heart Just Because - Anita Baker Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine - 5th Dimension Sidewalk Talk - Madonna For Crying Out Loud - Meat Loaf (although I'm not sure if that's the EXACT title. It's the song after Paradise by the.. on Bat Out Of Hell) Thanks For My Child - Cheryl 'Pepsi' Riley They Don't Know - Tracy Ullman He's So Shy - Pointer Sisters Angel Eyes - Jeff Healey Band Beds Are Burning - Midnight Oil Cool It Now - New Edition Run, Runaway - Slade A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall - Edie Brickell (from the Born on the Fourth of July soundtrack. Actually, if I could find this song on any label, I'd buy it. Even if I don't know ANY of the other songs on it. Lord knows I've done THAT before!)
Anyway, it's just my choices.

KaraokeGal, Angel Eyes is on 7545, one of the bricks(2?) I remember that song from Roadhouse, but haven't heard it in so long I can never do it any justice. I don't know if the version is off a little or, more likely, I can't remember how it goes good enough to do it. GaryC

It's been a while since I requested anything because SC has really been doing an excellent job of compiling songs from the 70s & 80s genre. I tip my hat to you!
As I was doing a little browsing through my own database of titles, I took a look at some of the non-SC disks I have purchased over time and what titles I bought them for. I have no idea if there are copyright issues on these songs, so excuse me if I ask for something that can not legally be produced.
Here goes:
Scenes from an Italian Restaurant - Billy Joel For The Longest Time - Billy Joel Vienna - Billy Joel A Matter of Trust - Billy Joel
Sweet Home Chicago - Blues Brothers
Kodachrome - Paul Simon You Can Call Me Al - Paul Simon
Shadows of the Night - Pat Benatar
Karn Evil #9 - Emerson Lake & Palmer
Behind Blue Eyes - The Who
Space Cowboy - Steve Miller Band
Suffragette City - David Bowie
All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
Time - Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd (This one is not available to my knowledge at all, and I can't understand why, prior to The Wall, I think this was the most recognizable piece by Pink Floyd)
I Am...I Said - Neil Diamond Forever In Blue Jeans - Neil Diamond
Friend of the Devil - Grateful Dead
Melissa - Allman Brothers Band
Allison - Elvis Costello or Linda Ronstadt
We Just Disagree - Dave Mason (yeah, I know we have the Billy Dean version)
Harmony - Elton John
Waddaya think? Sound Choice versions would be awesome!

Just wanted to add a couple that I grew up with: "Flamethrower" and "Angel In Blue" by the J. Geils Band
"Doin' It All For My Baby" by Huey Lewis & the News "Through the Long Night" by Billy Joel "Return To Pooh Corner" by Kenny Loggins How about a decent version of "Mockingbird" in the duetic (is that a word?) style of James Taylor and Carly Simon? "Endicott" by Kid Creole & the Coconuts the entire Dan Fogelberg library (I know you can't get him very well, so I'm dreaming BIG! You know what they say- expect success: when you go to hunt for Moby Dick, bring along the tartar sauce!) I also would second KaraokeGal's request for Slade's "Run Runaway" that song ROX!

I'm behind you all the way on the Chapin stuff. The only one of those Lightfoot songs I know is "Early Mornin' Rain", but I'll take your word that the rest of 'em are good!

YES, YES, YES to all Gordon Lightfoot and Harry Chapin songs above. Gawd! 30,000 Pounds of Bananas would be awesome! What a funny song! All the songs Frank V selected are excellent selections by both artists.
I too would like to have any Dan Fogelberg you can scare up. I'm thinking stuff from the Souvenirs album would be great, "Morning Sky," "There's A Place In The World For A Gambler" and "As The Raven Flies" come to mind.

More 80's requests (and rehashing a couple of others that can't be found on the request board anymore...):
Laid Back - White Horse Album: Keep Smiling. Classic old-school/dance/new wave song.
LL Cool J - Going Back To Cali Album: Walking With The Panther (1989) Remember this one? I sure do.
Pet Shop Boys - It's A Sin Billboard USA top singles 1987, reached #9 peak position. Cool song as well. SC must include thunder sounds, though!
Falco - Rock Me Amadeus Album: Falco 3 Lyrics: http://www.falco.at/24.htm Billboard USA top singles 1986, #1 peak position. This song is half English / half German, and was a huge world-wide hit in 1986. If people can sing half Spanish songs (e.g., Macarena) they can learn this one too .

Just last night my husband was playing "Oh, Babe What Would You Say" on Napster. I asked him if it was out on karaoke. I don't think it is so I second Lonman's request.
