After several posting on SC I thought it would be neat to write a book on Karaoke from a KJ point of view and using some of the topics as well as information I get off the web....

DON'T BLOW INTO THE MIC

DON'T TRIP ON THE MIC CORD

DON'T BRING YOUR DRINK UP ON STAGE

don't do a song someone just sang thinking you can do it better.

DON'T bring a CUSTOMER disc to a non-customer friendly show that doesn't allow customer discs!

it was a JOKE!

SOMEONE has their tennis shoes laced on a bit too tightly.

Did I say you by name, Gem? If anybody else had read this thread without you coming in spewing lava and molten ash, nobody would have been the wiser.

But since we're on the subject, YES, I DO think not allowing customer discs is NON-CUSTOMER friendly.

Let me SAY it again for you deaf people that dont hear well.....IM NOT GOING TO CHANGE THIS POLICY...get over it ok...people like my show the way it is.
NEXT ...to Dan...read the title of this thread if you dont like it you dont have to be involved....this is where we can debate different issue that work for different KJ
I also have a policy for singers who are rude to other singers.....any booing or rude remarkes coming for singers out in the aud is remove from the list to sing the rest of the night...no exceptions !!!!!!
People are not allowed to smoke or drink on stage anyone caught trying to do so will not sing the rest of the evening. anyone
Being rude to the KJ for ANY REASON is ban from sing at any gig of GK for 1 month no exceptions although this has never happen

Interesting way to do the 2000th post for me.

Gem, if there's ANYBODY that needs to "Get Over IT" it's YOU. The majority here clearly agree that your rule on the non-customer disc (even though you do it yourself to another kj's show) is silly. You've stated time and time again that you won't budge on your policy.

I've NEVER seen any company that wouldn't keep their mind open to policy change... by being inflexible or even close-minded, you are setting yourself up for failure.

And nobody said that you're going to have people walking out the doors in droves. What we're saying is, this isn't a show that we would feel comfortable with. Obviously, you agree in a sort, or you wouldn't be so brash as to bring in your OWN disc into another's show. If it's good for you, you should be able to go to another's show and follow your own rules there. Otherwise, what good is it.

And if it's a dead horse, the floggin' can stop when you stop overreacting!

I said I have done it...I dont anymore because of my policy.....but see you and the people on this thread dont come to my shows so im not really worried about it...LOL....see what you fail to understand is that you and everyone on here think that you are the gods of Karaoke but EVERY KJ is different..every show Ive been to is different EVERY ONE !!!! What works for you might not work for someone else...Ive talk to other KJ in Salina and its amazing the rules we all have that are different ...there also 2 other KJ here that also have the same NO DISC POLICY so thats 3 out of 5 here in salina that agree!!!!

Do's & don'ts.

As a KJ.

Do allow customers to be number 1. Including bringing in their own discs.

As a singer.

Don't treat the customer like they are peons & not allow them to bring in their own discs.

You are absolutely correct. I don't think ANYONE of the people that post here would attend your show, mainly because of the way you portray yourself here. That is the saddest part really because these people do get large groups together & travel around the country to support shows of other kj's they meet on these boards. Many of these kj's will help advertise a show on their own websites or at least put a link to other shows that they feel would be enjoyable or heard good things about. We know you don't need that kind of support from any of us because you are already NUMBER 1 in the karaoke industry, I don't even see why you continue to come to these forums, you already are set in your ways & know everything. These boards are for open minded kj's who want to learn & gather information to help improve their own shows.

Gem-
That comment Matt made early in this post was a gentle slap at me. It's been an ongoing joke about my shows: I don't normally allow burns of any sort in my shows, as it means:
A) they didn't buy the original, raising the price higher for consumers
B) they may not even bother to see what I have to offer musically, and after investing so much in my library, it can hurt a guy's feelings...

Currently, I work FOR someone else, and since their policies don't necessarily say anything other than keep the customers happy, I (grudgingly) oblige.

Ah well, at least I'm working again...

If you cant follow the rules of the KJ in charge then dont go.........its that simple.... I dont care if anyone from this board comes to one of my show or not..no skin off of my nose but one thing is for sure THEY WILL...WILL.....FOLLOW THE NO DISC POLICY LIKE EVERYONE AT MY GIGS...THATS FOR SURE!!!!!!! LIKE IT OR NOT!!!!LOL

Gem...perhaps you can just stop responding to the issue?

You've made your position clear. However, as this is an OPEN forum it only stands that others are going to share their opinion too. You don't need to restate your position again and again and again. We get it. You have no intention of changing your stand. enough already.

No one here thinks they're Gods. We share and trade ideas, support each other and look for advice when faced with situations that others with different experiences may have encountered.

We are, however, all very proud of our shows, what we've built, how we do things. There is a keen sense of pride among everyone who contributes to this board. It's been that way since the board began and is one of the reasons we keep coming back and one of the reasons we're proud to support our colleagues and list their shows across the Americas and the UK. WE know that we can recommend the shows of our fellow SC colleagues because they have shown over they years their commitment to their craft and their patrons.

Please stop flogging a dead horse...us ponies are very sensitive to equine tragedy.

Pony, maybe the answer is to talk around him now. You know, carry on the conversation as if he were'nt even here. I know it may sound rude but so what?

Karma, reap, sow... call it what you will flame, but people generally get what they give, the good and the bad.

We have long enjoyed the wealth of support and friendships we've made here. I appreciate SC inviting us all into their house to play. It would be nice if everyone were good house guests and took off their shoes...

But alas...it seems, someone will always track dirt through the kitchen

Probably not hard to be the best in a town of so little. Learn how to spell in your posts & you may actually be taken seriously instead of the 4th grade persona you portray!

It's also hilarious that you think that simply because YOU open a topic makes it yours. This is a public forum, not sure if you quite grasped that concept yet, but anyone can post their ideas & beliefs as well as what YOU THINK should be the correct way. Many here have been SUCCESSFULLY running karaoke years longer than you. So what makes YOUR way correct?
