All original "Beatles" songs, no individual work. And no, I didn't get those Canadian discs in... never heard of them, but I'll find them. There's still a lot more discs I have to enter.

I'm using Microsoft Access to control the data... and I'm making sure all the song titles and artists are spelled the same way, otherwise it wouldn't work.

Another cool thing (I mentioned it before), is than I can run a query on, for example, all the Beatles songs NOT in my songbook... then look at those discs and see what else on those discs I don't have. But, for fun... here's the 152 Beatles songs available :

good job, grateful!

could you do an additional breakdown?

how many r&b songs have been done, and by which artists? i'm speaking of the 60's-70's-80's era.

al green, spinners, teddy pendergras, prince, gladys knight, etc....as well as the r&b one hit wonders.

it'd be interesting to see exactly how well represented r&b music is within the karaoke manufacturers as a whole.

thanks!

All those Beatles songs and no Tomorrow Never Knows...and a few others, but it would be interesting to know if they can beat Frank if you counted and added their solo (or other group) efforts.

Hey and where is Elton and Billy on this list - - I read and re-read over and over again you guys complaining that there ain't enough Elton And Billy - - so you guys must be right.

Elton John has 70 songs in the database. Billy Joel has 55.

Georgetto, I initially had an "R&B" category (as well as "New Wave", "Disco", etc), but it got too difficult to maintain and categorize, so I lumped them all into Classic Pop. Maybe someday though... unless I can find a massive list of songs by genres somewhere.

PS: That "R&B" brand of discs (like 23 discs) really sucks.

Thanks for the John/Joel info, they are just ready to crack the top 10 - maybe a Vs. disc might pull it off for them.

And I totally agree with you on the R&B discs - they suck.... it's just too bad becuase they had some cool songs on them that might not have made the cut from other companies.

What are the numbers for the HB & AMU type artist? One things for sure SC probably produces 99% of it. Yeah for SC!!!

Yeah, I'd like to know the stats on the Headbanger material also.

That's interesting... I didn't know "A Day In The Life" was available as a duet. I do both parts myself; I just play with the effects a little.

no prob, grateful! i know it's a lot of work.

if this database of yours is for lease, i'd be interested in browsing through it and sorting through it for the classic (20 years and older) r&b songs.

Grateful said:
"Madonna with 71 songs, Backstreet Boys with 67, Rolling Stones with 59"

Exactly how many albums did the Backstreet Boys produce? three? four? How do they rate 67 songs??? Especially when their careers completely died out 5 years after their 1996 debut?

For artists whose careers lasted much longer (and who sold way more albums), yet their songs don't make the cut for karaoke, they'd have to find this particular piece of info pretty insulting.

hence the word "POP"ular music, Georgetto! That's how so many of these companies put out their songs. Then you have the different formats, such as VCD, DVD, Laser, on TOP of cdg!

And yes, Cassette! LOL!!

Many European companies made a lot of "All N-Sync", "All-Backstreet Boys" discs - so that's why there's so many songs by them. Probably a lot of them are just made by only one company.

Like, MM just released another Elvis Disc, so that makes 520 different Elvis Songs. But the majority of those songs all come exclusively from MM. And Pocket Songs owns the Sinatra stuff.

For karaoke, there are about 92 "headbanging artists", with 711 songs. Sound Choice has made 533 of these songs (75%). The other 25% are primarily from Sweet Georgia Brown, Legends, Pocket Songs, Sunfly and Pioneer.

I'm surprised SC isn't responsible for more like 85 or 90 percent of the Headbanger stuff. I try to buy almost ALL the HB songs (from any label). The only two songs I can think of that Sound Choice doesn't have (that someone else does) are Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Goodbye To Romance.

I'm sure there's others; I just can't think of them at the moment. Also, I'm sure it depends on how you classify Headbanger songs, and whether or not it includes classic rock like Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin.

Hey, who has Ted Nugent's "Strangehold" on karaoke?

As for the Damn Yankees songs, those are Broadway songs from the musical. When I first asked about the lp, the store worker pointed me out to the musical and not the rock group.

And what song is the Boston song... I've never heard of that one - sounds like a Carpernter's song - - maybe "We're Ready"

Wow... I'm impressed! I forgot about all those Hendrix tunes that were out there (I've heard the quality is pretty poor though).

SC just recently (last week) came out with a few of those: Dreams, You Could be Mine and Tears Are Falling.

Yeah, don't know about that Boston tune - it's probably labeled wrong by the manufacturer or something (it's on a VCD).

Thanks for info on Damn Yankees - that one always puzzled me. And SGB has Stranglehold.

As regards Hendrix, we don't list him on Headbangers discs particularly - I think there is 1 song. Even though he was one of the founding fathers of the genre.

Depending on how "purist" one is, and how old one is, there's a lot of grey area between Hard Rock and Heavy Metal/Headbangers. Lots of crossover if you're open and if you know the musical history. Lots of debate if you're hard core about it.

But, in addition to "Hey Joe" on the Foundation and "Red House" on a Blues disc, here is our Hendrix Star. I don't see some of these songs in the listing. Then again, many of them wouldn't qualify as hard, heavy or headbanging in my personal opinion.

#2279 - Star Series
Hits Of Jimi Hendrix - Vol. 1
"Fire" - Jimi Hendrix
"Purple Haze" - The Jimi Hendrix Experience
"All Along The Watchtower" - The Jimi Hendrix Experience
"Manic Depression" - Jimi Hendrix
"Foxy Lady" - Jimi Hendrix
"Angel" - Jimi Hendrix
"Little Wing" - Jimi Hendrix
"The Wind Cries Mary" - Jimi Hendrix

As regards Queen - yeah there are a few headscratcher artists on the early Headbangers discs. (Rush comes to mind.) Although, "Tie Your Mother Down" is certainly a hard rocking song.

But Queen isn't on the Headbangers KHOF pak. I think you're confused with Queen being on the "70's & 80's" KHOF pak (The combo "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions", I think.)

Yes, the Queen "headbanger" artist got picked up from Tie Your Mother down on the HB disc.

But the list of songs above are songs that SC hasn't made... (i.e., the Hendrix songs are made by other karaoke companies but not SC).

WAIT a minute Grateful! LOL!

The only disc that has "Real World" on it is a Nutech (both VCD and cdg, and I THINK Laser)... but what about their other stuff from SC?

Another Rainy Night (Without You) - originally on a Brickette SC0053
Della Brown - SC8691
Empire - SC8660
Eyes Of A Stranger - SC8691
I Don't Believe In Love - SC8713
Jet City Woman - SC8691
Queen Of The Reich - SC8756
Silent Lucidity - PI-045 & SC
Take Hold Of The Flame - SC8691

Or am I confused, and don't know what you're posting here! LOL!

Matt, I think you're confused. That list we're looking at is a selection of Headbanger-type songs that are available on OTHER labels, but not on Sound Choice.

Oops... "Video Maria" is by some spanish artist named "GNR". Somewhere down the line GNR got translated into Guns 'N' Roses. Thanks.

No Grateful, thank you. With all those discs somethings got to be wrong or misleading. And I really apreciate that you answered back on my questions. Amazing job you have done with some very interesting information.

One more thing, the song "High Enough" is from both the Musical "Damn Yankess" and the Group Damn Yankees; but they are different songs.

More stats

*********************************

The only Sound Choice discs where all the tracks have never been released for karaoke by anyone else are:

SC8830 - Headbangers Hits - Vol. 12
SC8193 - Greek Favorites
SC7106 - Tejano Éxitos - Vol. 2
SC7105 - Tejano Éxitos - Vol. 1

*********************************

20% of the songs in Sound Choice's library cannot be purchased on any other brand.

*********************************

Top 10 of SC's "favorite" artists (# of songs they covered):

The Beatles = 93 songs
George Strait = 84 songs
Reba McEntire = 67 songs
Elvis Presley = 65 songs
Alabama = 63 songs
Garth Brooks = 56 songs
Alan Jackson = 49 songs
Elton John = 49 songs
Dolly Parton = 46 songs
Randy Travis = 42 songs

I'm guessing that many artists in the "Top 10" are country because I don't think there's a multitude of popular country singers.... same artists raking in the dough.

Interesting data... many of the songs you list NOT on Sound Choice are available on other legitimate brands... makes me wonder about them.

However, since when are Elton John and Chicago and 98 Degrees and Ronan Keating classified as "Modern Rock" ???
