Well it's that time of year again and it became official today at 1:15pm. Of course all us finatics know that it is baseball season. Now of course me being a Red Sox fan I am always optimistic at the start of the season, plus I'm hoping that we wipe the floor with the Yankees. So who do you like and where are they going, I actually have two teams for both areas that I have lived in for my life so I am hoping for a Red Sox and Giants world series. There I said it letthe razzing begin. Posts: 1795 | From: Fall River, Ma | Registered: Feb 2001

Surely you jest, you hysterical April Fooler, you! ROTFLMAO!!! What a funny guy!
Who is it that won 4 of the last 6 World Series???? Ohhhhh, yeah.... the New Yawk Yankees, baby!!!
The Red Sox haven't "wiped the floor with the Yankees" since Roger Clemens was winning Cy Young Awards while toiling at Fenway back in the late 80s and early 90s!! Oh wait... that's cruel. Roger's now winning 20 and more Cy Youngs with the Yankees. I'm sorry.
Hey, how about this one! They haven't wiped the floor with anyone since they pulled one of the biggest CHOKES in the history of all professional sports in the 1986 World Series. (I watched in-person as they completed their humiliation in Game 7). Sorry.... that's even more cruel. I just can't stop... there are soooo many embarrassments, gaffs, blunders and disgraces going waaaay back into the last century - it's not really fair. Oh, that’s right…. you asked for it!
Can't wait to see Jason blowing them over the short porch in right, as the Yanks pull away in the "meaningful" games after the Sox have squandered yet another meaningless early season lead in June. The inevitable collapse and the subsequent misery of loyal Blow Sox fans will be made that much sweeter for us Yankee fans after the puffed up hyperbole from fans of a franchise that hasn't won anything meaningful in the past 83 years once again blows up in your red faces.
But don’t sweat it - after your misbegotten bushers are rendered impotent once again, you and your disgruntled brethren can sit back and watch as the Yanks cruise to another first place finish. Let the games begin!

Ahhh, spring in Chicago. It started out sunny and mild. Went to cloudy and the temperatures falling. Then the snow came and then the rain. All in one day. Yes, springtime in the windy city has something for everyone. Posts: 902 | From: Joliet,IL.USA | Registered: Oct 2001

When you live in North Dakota, you are supposed to root for the Twins.
Notice I said "supposed to...." lol
But the Twinks won the season opener -- a season that was supposed to be without a team in Minnesota, thanks to "contraction." But that didn't happen...yet...
Of course, the joke in ND is...
"Why doesn't North Dakota have a professional baseball team?" "Because if it did, Minnesota would want one, too."

Bonds has picked up where he left off by smacking two homers for the Giants' opener.

Bonds hits 2 more. On pace for 324. Unbelievable! Makes me glad that I try to follow the Giants all the way out here on the east coast. BTW Sox rained out Varitek hits another homer after elbow surgery, can you say comeback player of the year.

I still find it hard to believe that someone smashed Mac's record so soon. It's going to be a very interesting year in baseball if Barry can keep this up!

Spring is here? Really? Tigers opening day (OK, so we're now 0 and 4) and halfway through the pathetic game the snow is coming down so hard the pitcher can't see the catcher. So, where is this alleged spring I've heard about?? LOL

Well we're halfway. Yankees have a very slim lead over the best team in the bigs, The Red Sox. I think we're done toying with them and it time to eat our dirty soxs. Also the Giants are in prime condition to make a decent run for the west. Nice to see the Dogers making a run at it too.

But if the Yanks old-age home starting pitching holds up in the second half, the scary thing is that they can get better.
It's been a great first half, sadly punctuated by the death of one the all-time greats.
PS - Not to be cruel, but I never noticed that Teddy Ballgame was born the last year the Red Sox actually won the World Series - 1918. If you're a believer in numerlology, 2002 just might be the year they finally end the jinx of the Babe.

Stan I can't believe that Barry only hit 3 dingers in the opening round. And the MLB leader only hit 2. I was hugely impressed by Giambi keeping pace with Sammy, and Sammy just was crushing the ball. 508 ft. to the courtyard outside the ballpark I don't think so.

Well, we sold our house, and are having a new one built. We move in the first part of November. So, in case things are a little hectic, and I don't have a chance to add this to the end of season discussion, I'd just like to post this now, for future reference:
"And the Jays still suck."
That of course assumes that the season ends around the end of October as usual, and not sometime in August. In that case, I'll just come back and post that then.

Well, it looks like Nomar Garciaparra is suffering the same fate as the late, great Ted Williams. No matter how great the Splinter's individual feats were, he watched the New York Yankees win pennants and World Series titles seemingly every year in the 40s and 50s, and into the 60s. Nomar is one of the game's greatest players, but Derek Jeter has been is in his seventh season, and he has 5 World Series rings.
Oops! 4 rings. Left the 5th one on the field in Arizona.
Shutout twice in a row at home (including Pedro)! Stick a fork in dem Sox.... again.

Since September 11, 2001, Americans have come together as never before in our generation. We have banded together to overcome tremendous adversity. We have weathered direct attacks on our own soil, wars overseas, corporate scandal, layoffs, unemployment, stock price plunges, droughts, fires, and a
myriad of economic and physical disasters both great and small. But now, we
must come together once again to overcome our greatest challenge yet.
Hundreds of Major League Baseball players in our very own nation are living
at, just below, or in most cases far above the seven-figure salary level. And as if that weren't bad enough they could be deprived of their life-giving pay for several months, possibly longer, as a result of the upcoming strike situation. But you can help!
For only $20,835 a month, about $694.50 a day (that's less than the cost of a large screen projection TV) you can help a MLB player remain economically viable during his time of need. This contribution by no means solves the problem as it barely covers the annual minimum salary, but it's a start, and every little bit will help!
Although $700 may not seem like a lot of money to you, to a baseball player it could mean the difference between spending the strike golfing in Florida
or on a Mediterranean cruise. For you, seven hundred dollars is nothing more than a month's rent, half a mortgage payment, two unemployment checks, or a month of medical insurance with COBRA, but to a baseball player, $700 will partially replace his daily salary.
Your commitment of less than $700 a day will enable a player to buy that home entertainment center, trade in the year-old Lexus for a new Ferrari, or enjoy a weekend in Rio.
HOW WILL I KNOW I'M HELPING?
Each month, you will receive a complete financial report on the player you sponsor. Detailed information about his stocks, bonds, 401(k), real estate,
and other investment holdings will be mailed to your home. Plus, upon signing up for this program, you will receive an unsigned photo of the player lounging during the strike on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean (for a signed photo, please include an additional $150). Put the photo on your refrigerator to remind you of other peoples' suffering.
HOW WILL HE KNOW I'M HELPING?
Your MLB player will be told that he has a SPECIAL FRIEND who just wants to help in a time of need. Although the player won't know your name, he will be able to make collect calls to your home via a special operator in case additional funds are needed for unforeseen expenses.
YES, I WANT TO HELP!
I would like to sponsor a striking MLB player. My preference is checked
below:
[ ] Infielder
[ ] Outfielder
[ ] Starting Pitcher
[ ] Ace Pitcher
[ ] Entire team (Please call our 900 number to ask for the cost of a specific team - $10 per minute)
[ ] Alex Rodriguez (Higher cost: $60,000 per day)
Please charge the account listed below $694.50 per day for the player for the duration of the strike. Please send me a picture of the player I have sponsored, along with an Alex Rodriguez 2001 Income Statement and my very own Donald Fehr MLB Players Union pin to wear proudly on my hat (include $80 for hat).

DC might get a team now. The deal is no contraction until after 2006 at the earliest. The Montreal Expos are not going to last that long, so I guess they have to go somewhere. Maybe even Carolina LOL. There's an investment for Sound Choice. Have the first stadium with a karaoke bar.
