Well, the karaoke shows here are on "summer hours" -- some are in, some aren't...
One venue shut down karaoke at the end of April, and won't revive it until September. Another has two shows scheduled for June, one for July and three for August.
So, here's my query: Is this common? Do other areas have seasonal karaoke? And -- what does one do when suffering Karaoke withdrawl? (Trivial Pursuit might help...)

Geezer, We don't have any loss of business or cutting down on shows, but we definitely notice a drop off in attendance. Fortunately for us, we do our shows during the week, so we don't notice it as much as the weekend shows. GaryC

we have some bars here that put off karaoke, as well as other entertainment for the summer. We have a large university here, so I'm sure that has something to do with it. But, there is no shortage of karaoke around here, usually at least 5 shows a night on slow nights, so finding a replacement wouldn't be a problem. Fortunately, my 2 regular haunts have been regular for years. And with any luck, the Devils will finish off Dallas Thursday, and we won't have to wait on Saturday for the game to be over. (That's not an endorsement of New Jersey, just a wish that hockey would end already )

That's wierd. It seems like (at least in Los Angeles area) Karaoke gets even popular! For one thing, school's out for summer. More people are apt to go out on weekdays.
It seems to slow down only on holidays where people go to Lake Havasu, Palm Springs, or wherever.

Here in Pa one of my shows has shut down until September. But we still have another Friday and Saturday nights. Attendence drops every year at this one also in the summer but is still profitable enough to keep alive. However, since we are only 20 minutes south of the pocono mountain resorts we get an increase in shows at the resort locations as they are packed. It's almost funny how 20 to 30 miles can seem like a different continent.

Generally, the karaoke business here seems to get better when the weather is nicer... The crowds just seem to come in a little bit later because of the later sunsets. People tend to hibernate around here if it gets too cold
One place nearby is actually the exact opposite of what you are experiencing... it shuts down from Oct - April every year and only is open during Spring/Summer/Early Fall.

Bars with college patrons will experience slow periods during the summer and winter breaks. Luckily, the venues I go to aren't around any colleges. The patrons don't "go home" for the summer and winter.

summertime is the best time for karaoke here in PA, even with all of the college towns around..my every-other friday night show gets around 150-200 people through spring, fall & winter, in the summer it's around 250 or more. i kj 7 nights a week and have only seen more people through the summer.

To (badly) paraphrase Cat Stevens or Sam Cooke:
"Another Saturday Night And there ain't No Karaoke I have a new song that I want to try Oh how I wish there was some show to go to I think that I will cry..."
(Any excuse for parody lyrics...)
Cheers, Geezer

There was a show on June 16th. The next show is July 14th...then not until Aug. 11th...but both venues say twice-weekly shows will begin again after Labor Day.
Now I'm looking forward to my trip to DC (July 25-30th) -- and the promise of a friend that we will find karaoke in Baltimore.

To my knowledge temporary closings in my area (west side Cleveland, OH) has not happened though I'm aware of a few places that no longer have karaoke. And that is terrible for me, because there are very few weekend shows in this area, especially Saturday night karaoke.

Here in Mobile, so many people go to the Gulf beaches in Gulf Shores or Dauphin Island that many businesses shut down part if not all week. I always have a good following, but I am always reminding my crowd way ahead of time that everyone is not at the beach and if they are looking for a place to party tell their friends I. I was doing a private party on the 4th but I was packed at my Fri., Sat., Sun.(they kept me 2 hours over), & Wed. shows. Many other places were not so fortunate.
My slower time is just after Mardi Gras (ends with close of Fat Tuesday ,Ash Wed.-which is the beginning of Lent) to Tax Day April 15th and in the fall on cool Saturdays (October, early November) when festivals attract people who do their activities then.
