As a customer of buying Sound Choice product for over 10 years, I feel the need to know if Sound Choice is having any kind of financial difficulties? if they getting ready to go out of business? I hope thats not the case, its just in my honest opinion that the products being released are either taking a long period of time being produced or not produced at all. We as a community of friends of the Sound Board are Adults, we can take the good news along with the bad....sure we'll be upset if somethings wrong, but, in the long run, we will pull together and make sense of it all.
thanks

Well if you look on the homepage they added SC Studio and I'm sure they are like every other business right now in this challenging economy. Looking for new ideas to bring revenue in.

We may have the "want to know" if SC is having difficulties but none of us has a "need to know". None of us have a stake in the company. And how does a product being released not get produced at all?

But unfortunately this uncertainty does hurt their business. Those of us who are KJ's who do require new music are having to go elsewhere for new music. It just is really sad that I can find newer songs in the karaoke section of Wal-Mart than I can here at Sound Choice. For example Sound Choice just put out Ludacris' Money Maker yet I have had it in my collection on a retail level for well over a year now. I would prefer the Sound Choice versions of these songs but we KJ's have to do what is best for our businesses and get the new music for our patrons and in the long run that is what is hurting your business.

Willy, SC made NO secret of the fact that the KJs don't bring in the same kind of business that they did years ago. Now, the home market is far surpassing the kj market as far as purchases. I agree that on the surface, it seems if they put the hits out earlier, they'd still have business. But BC addressed some time ago that many factors are hurting their retail sales.
You talk about the walley world music... sure, and is it legit? Of all the manus, SC has always led the industry on trying to be right in their production and working with the various licenses!

It looks like they are legit. They seem to pull some songs whenever an artist becomes the proverbial no-no. I understand that these are some trying times but being a member of the service industry it seems like the answer is to increase and not decrease service. No business has ever succeeded by cutting down to an almost non-existant level. Maybe they should try to get into the retail market. Heck it would make it a lot easier for the home market to get discs. I would go crazy buying discs.

SC may feel that it can survive on catalog sales in the short term while the karaoke market shakes down some. In that case, decreasing "service" or releases for the time being may make the most sense from a business perspective as much as much of us would hate to see that happen. There may also be reasons why they do not want to try the retail market.

From my understanding, SC was in the retail market, putting out discs under different labels. Performers Choice was their old retail label, and they put discs out under American Idol and Nashville Star as well. Not sure what other labels they were under, but I do recall BC saying a few years ago that they did sell to Walmart and others. If they aren't still doing that, they probably fell victim to Walmart's tendency to go with cheaper suppliers. The Walmart execs probably think one karaoke disc is the same as the next, just like a box of Kraft Dinner from one distributor is the same as from the cheaper one.

Most of the KJ's I see aren't even using discs anymore. It's so much easier to load up a HD with songs and pull em up from there than to load a massive stash of cds in their vehicle.

in response to my previous post... I don't know why SoundChoice doesn't go the same route and offer pre-loaded hard drives of karaoke files instead of "losing money" on discs

I believe that Sound Choice has indicated before that the music publishers would not license them to offer the songs as downloads.

Zoom, Sunfly and others don't seem to have a problem with offering downloaded mp3g's. Perhaps SC should consider moving or opening a subsidiary in the UK where there doesn't seem to be a problem with it.

SC would have to make a re-appearance in the karaoke market for that to happen. I wonder what the Vegas action is on whether we will see another new release from them?
