It seems that Soundchoice is getting trouble getting licenses from certain artists. My impression after reading posts on this forum is that this licensing problem is peculiar to the USA alone because I know many other non-US karaoke companies have no problems with licensing. Now what I want to know is why these difficult artists make a fuss about US licensing when other karaoke companies will be able to produce their songs any way either through CD-Gs, custom CD-Gs or mp3+G downloads. I can't imagine karaoke KJs or karaoke consumers in the USA have no access to non-US based karaoke companies. I know in Australia we have access to diverse karaoke companies from around the world and the Australian as well UK companies have no problem issuing any of these difficult artists songs for karaoke. Now if those artists songs are going to appear for karaoke purposes anyway why not have Soundchoice (one of the best in the karaoke business) to issue them? Doesn't these artists know that the laws in other parts of the world like the UK and Australia makes it easy for their songs to appear for karaoke purposes anyway? So why are they being difficult in the USA then?

Doesn't necessarily mean other manus even in other companies are necessarily getting the proper licensing either. We just assume they do because that is what they say. THM used to say that too

I get the impression some artists are being difficult not because of the almighty dollars but because they are anti-karaoke. They just don't like the idea of their songs being performed (and butchered) at public karaoke bars.
About proper licensing. I think those Australian and UK karaoke companies have proper licensing or else they would have been sued by now. I don't want to name them but because I have been advised it is taboo to mention other karaoke companies on Soundchoice's forum. Their collection of songs are very extensive surpassing Soundchoice by a long mile and almost every month they come up with new discs of the recent Top 40 hits as well as discs of older songs. They are done well too. This company I am talking about (S#@$%Y) is based in the UK and Australia.
Another company which only provides custom CD-Gs and mp3+G downloads which is US based and UK based even has more extensive than the previous company above. For most of their songs they have normal audio and graphics songs, multiplex karaoke songs (with vocals which can be removed) and licensed karaoke songs for public performance like corporate functions (for a few extra dollars but this version doesn't have any graphics just the music backing track).
It seems this last company doesn't have any problems as they add new songs (recent hits and old hits) to their catalogue every week on their internet site. And their production is very good too.
Soundchoice is the only company I know who complains about difficult licensing. If licensing is a matter of national laws then I suggest Soundchoice has a base in Australia or the UK which obviously has more lax laws. I know Soundchoice's custom CD-G is already handled and produced by Soundchoice Australia for what ever reason. This way Soundchoice can keep up with the competition and even get into the 21st Century by providing mp3+3 downloads on the internet.

Still means nothing as far as us the consumer knowing that a manu paid for licensing for particular songs. We can only assume & hope they are correct.
