Can anyone tell me if Soundchoice produces songs, and if so, is Soundchoice responsive to requests for songs to be made into Karaoke format if none is yet available? Thanks.
I imagine the decision to make specific karaoke songs is predicated on a number of factors, such as estimate of popularity and difficulty of producting particular song, etc. But there are songs that I am interested in singing which do not seem to be available. What options do I have in contacting a producer of karaoke songs? Posts: 13 | From: Aloha from Hawaii | Registered: May 2007

ya... see that other thread called 'song requests'? That would be where song requests go. There is also a link off of the main Sound Choice page. There have been many requested songs produced, and a few discs of only soundboard requests (i think) So go ahead request away.
btw: one of the biggest factors determining what will be produced is licensing, as you float around the board you will learn much about that.

This & if the song is available for production & whether the cost of production will be worth it or not. They aren't (no company will) create a song JUST because someone wants to sing it. The song request thread http://www.soundchoice.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=5 would be the starting point for any requested song. Then it has to have enough interest for them to really even to look into it, then licensing comes into play - which could shoot it down on the spot if the publishers/artists say no to karaoke.
Thanks a lot for your info. I will make my requests at the right places. Maybe I will give Soundchoice a call as well.
BTW, karaoke is extremely popular in Hawaii. I became aware of its popularity when I first set foot in Hawaii in the late 80s (from California). Everybody and his cousin seem to have been doing it. I don't know if Hawaii's proximity to the Far East and receptiveness to Far Eastern fads had contributed to this in the pioneer days. There are bars offering Karaoke everywhere. Unfortunately, many of these are "hostess" bars, something that may not exist on the mainland U.S.
I sing at a strictly Karaoke establishment with an open bar for singing and rooms for rentals for parties. I don't know how prevalent these establishments are on the mainland U.S.

What is a 'hostess' bar? The karaoke rooms themselves (private rooms) aren't too popular - many have not even heard of them - over here. Most of the karaoke places here are in clubs/bars/taverns/restaurants/etc. Karaoke has been popular here since about 89 (had 1 club that was running it nightly since 86 - mostly Asian club at the time) really started taking off in the early 90's.

In Hawaii, hostess bars are legal but semi-reputable bars, usually with management or owners of recent East Asian extraction. I guess these bars are popular in the Far East. They have young ladies who would drink with certain customers willing to pay high price for water-down drinks for the girls, many of whom are immigrants from Korea, Japan, etc. They also have satellite tv for sports and karaoke. There are probably hundreds of these bars around. But many non-hostess local bars have karaoke too.
I hear stories that some girls in some of these hostess bars will do more than drink with you for a price. But these are just rumors I hear.
There are not too many karaoke room places. But there are a few.

I imagine the bigger cities, especially on the West Coast, may have some of karaoke businesses with private rooms.
