Just listened to SC's Brain Damage/Eclipse. Well, in short, it's beyond belief! Just as incredible as SC's Comfortably Numb. Y'all gotta get it!

Grateful, how in the heck did you manage that? (Was that you that I saw camping out on the sidewalk in front of the karaoke store the other weekend?)
As soon as I finish writing this, I'm gonna call my local store and see if I can get a disc too, (thanks for the testimonial, Grateful!)

70's guy: The Singing Store in Sherman Oaks (previously Sing Young) gets discs faster than anywhere I've seen.
The official release date was last Thursday, and they had it in their store Friday. I also picked up Hard Rock Hits V.5 (another great job by SC - awesome vocals & guitar work) and the PowerPick with the Eminem song on it.

I got the disc with Brain Damage/Eclipse and I must say it's a great version. I've never owned a Pink Floyd record or CD (I must be like 1 out of a million) but I thought I knew the song from hearing it on the radio. But Sound Choice added a little surprise at the end, there is someone talking and the sound of a heartbeat! It was freaky! I played it before my gig, and was pleased to watch EVERYONE in the bar sing to it, the Twenty-somethings, the Thirty-somethings and the Fourty-somethings, until the end, and everyone was looking around to see who was talking! Very cool, SC!

LOL. That "talking" is on the original recording. It goes something like "There is no dark side on (of) the moon really. In fact, it's all dark".

Just wanted to contribute my own compliments on "Brain Damage/Eclipse," and "Wish Your Were Here." Unlike the Legends series versions, these do the original songs justice. I can't wait for the next Pink Floyd release.

So you are in the San Fernando Valley? I didn't think that the Singing Store carried Sound Choice (I may be confused with stores - this one in Van Nuys) and could never get a reason why. I usually go to Karaoke Music World (which is in Sherman Oaks - Ventura and Van Nuys Blvd - same place?) and get them usually the next day they are released
Where you do your shows?

It's the same place - on Van Nuys & Ventura next to the El Torito. I believe it says Karaoke Music World in the front, Yahoo Yellow Pages was listing it as "The Singing Store (or Center)", now it's listing it as "Sing Young Audio Video", and I know it used to be Sing Young a couple of years ago, but they claim they are still part of the Sing Young chain... so I'm confused too.
But that's the place. Currently I'm showless, so I'm just going out singing here and there - until my partners get their act together and get us some gigs .

Finally, I got my HB 11 disc. My dealer had personal issues and it took him a month to get it. It was so worth it. "Last In Line" was everything I expected it to be. So was DP. Love the fact that "Lay Your Hands On Me" has the whole intro. Also I got Creed vol 2, and "One Last Breath" was truley great. And lastly I picked up Billy Idol vol 1, and you did a suburb job on Mony, Mony(Live). Thanks again for such quality work.

Grateful, same place, and I picked up the same exact discs on the same day you did there, the day after release, good to know they get multiple copies for us.

Well, I just got Another Brick in the Wall Part II.
Not bad, but I'd bet a buck that BC wasn't the studio manager when it was created.
I was pretty disgusted when the studio singers began singing "oooh" instead of "aaaah". It might seem petty, but there are distinctly different emotional responses to each one, especially when they are sung in minor chords. It's an unfortunate error.

You know, I don't think I passed this compliment along when it came out but SC did a damn fine job on Alice Cooper's Elected on the All Made Up disc. It kicks ass! Hope there is more Alice in the works!

I guess you haven't listened to The Wall in a long time.
On the original album recording, the backup singers do in fact sing "ooh ooh ooh," and not "aah aah aah."
However, in every subsequent live performance of the song since then, it has been changed to "aah aah aah." Don't ask me why. I personally prefer the original sound. It has a stronger affect, in my opinion.
No, there is no mistake on this track. It is indeed, one of SC's many tracks of virtually flawless quality. Nice job, SC.

I listened to that on a cassette tape every single day for over a year, and I always heard it as "ah".
Afer going back and listening to it, I can see how easy it was to make that mistake. They are singing, "Ooh". . . however, there is also an aural illusion in the music that can catch you off guard and make it sound like "Ah".

So I guess we got the correct part, but missed the sonic studio subtlety since you were able to tell what they were singing - .
BTW: I, typically, have little, nada, bupkus, zippo to do with our performance results of individual songs - positive or negative. That responsibility rests primarily with our resident Music Director, an outrageously talented man, and our individual Engineers/Producers and Musicians, a very talented and dedicated group.
But we thank everyone for the kind words!

Let me try and guess here... according to my ear, I believe the same guitarist who plays on most of the Zeppelin tunes also plays on the Scorpions and Boston songs. He probably plays the Judas priest songs too, but a different guitarist is featured on the Black Sabbath, Queensryche, Rush, and Guns N' Roses.
I also believe there may have been a change in drummers between Headbanger's vol 8 and vol 9. Am I correct?

Just wanna say great job on Zeppelin's Thank you. It is nearly perfect. Also great job on Hey Hey What Can I Do.

There are different groups of musicians for Country and Latin/Exitos, and two different sets of musicians for Pop/Rock, depending on the schedules/the number of songs/discs we're doing at any given time and, sometimes, the music genre.
On the Headbangers/Hard Rock stuff - two guitarists now (for the past 2 years or so), although we used to also use several other guitarists up through HB8. None of it is divided up by artist, they each just get songs to do per schedule. Sometimes there are multiple songs by the same artist, but mostly it's just chance. And, No, same drummer, no change (also, the same bass player).
Sometimes I can tell which guy played the guitar parts, most of the time I have to ask - they are both very talented and thorough. Going back a few years, it was the same guitartist/Music Director/Engineer who did both the Eagles disc and all the songs on the first Zeppelin disc except Ramble On (which I believe some folks have noted that the ending is not perfect).
But they have both taken on Hendrix, Van Halen, Clapton, U2, Dave Matthews, Def Leppard, Brian May, etc. Obviously, the degree of difficulty is high for the pyrotechnics of Hendrix or Van Halen, but more often the challenge is finding the particular characteristics of the sound of a guitarist/band - the odd tunings or unusual voicings, trying to imitate a 7-string guitar on a detuned 6-string guitar, figuring out the overall sound on a song is one part identically doubled, then another track plaed the same but in a different tuning, then another track recorded in a standard tuning at a slower speed, but speeded up when they mixed it all down - etc. Or, as I was told the way Jimmy Page did it - play the same part identically, but slightly detune the hight E-string.
It's a pretty set core of players, although there are substitutions depending on people's schedules. Same for the singers, although we tend to find new voices here and there. We have a couple singers who have been with us for a decade, and have sung on everything from Madonna to Alsion Krauss to Michelle Branch, George Strait to Queen to Kid Rock, etc.
It's a good group that works very hard, very quickly, and is very reliable. And we love them very much.

So, there you have it. The next time some ignorant pig decides to knock SC and say something insulting like "oh they suck," or "oh that song was lousy," first beat them over the head with a hammer, and then refer them to this message.

well, I NEVER let anybody tell me something like that!
SC is the elite of the karaoke world. Their music is usually top notch. And the few mistakes that they do or can't quite get the music just right, is very forgiveable.
NOBODY is perfect... you will find hits and misses in every karaoke format. But I feel that SC HITS nearly every time!
And that's not just because I'm on their board, either! I just flat out like them and their product.

That would be me - on all counts. I posted around six or seven o'clock last night that I would leave those posts there for a couple ours before removing the post ragging about another competitor, as well as the name-calling posts that followed.
That type of negativity is almost always offensive, and certainly it is always a waste of time in this space.
While we certainly like compliments, and don’t' want to discourage kind words, it's a little uncomfortable to feature our customers ripping our competition so openly. However, since it seems like the two are somewhat tied together, there is a thread devoted to that type of specific post. This thread was pointed out just last week. Please confine those type of posts devoted to ripping the competition to that thread.

says, thanks BC for taking a more active role in "policing" the threads and not letting people or "things" get way out of hand. Sooner or later certain "contributers" to these threads will learn what they can and can't get away with.

It is because I typed the names in bold and italics, huh?
I didn't see all the responses to my message. Were there more? I only saw the one Operavoice and then I went to sing. Was there a lot of name-calling? I really didn't get a chance to see it.

SC is the elite. But even they make mistakes. I will admit that some of the competitors out there are getting BETTER! Stuff that used to be kinda okay is awesome now.
We're helping them grow! It's kinda funny, but I've become a bit of a celebrity at my old hangout because many people there are major QR fans... so when I come walking in, everyone wants to sing off my discs! Then they see my list, and shake their heads, trying to figure out what to sing first!
I still make mine SC... and whenever possible, "upgrade" to them when I can.
