I found a related thread from January, but it doesn't answer my question.
I can't recall the song at the moment (I look up dozens of songs when they come to mind), but I recently did a search for a title I wanted, and SC has released it in cassette format only.
I realize that the cdg costs more to produce, but I'm guessing that the major expense of producing a song is the actual music production. Maybe I'm wrong.
I wonder why songs that are released on cassette aren't released as cdg's?

I think for most cases it's because with cassettes you don't need to have all the lyric licensings since there's no on-screen display. Technically, SC could create instrumental versions of any song they ever wanted without worry (I think).

But, on second thought, don't they print the lyrics on a "cheat sheet?"

They probably don't for the songs they can't get licensed for. But, I don't know for sure. Maybe there are separate licenses for display of lyrics (CDG) or printed lyrics (Cassettes, Star Series etc)

What's up with the synchronization licensing? It seems a bit ridiculous. How can you have display without synchronization or vice versa? It it simply legalese, or another way to get more money? It seems like they should be one in the same.

Along these lines, does Sound Choice re-ask artists for licensing? Have any changed their minds? Can persistence or negotiations pay off? For example, I see another Simon & Garfunkel CDG came out recently. Has the situation changed with Paul Simon? Is SC vigilant regarding the position of "no-no" artists? Does that make you vigilantes? Do I ask too many questions? Posts: 789 | From: Audubon, Pa. | Registered: Jan 2000

Well, licensing issues may be the reason for some of the songs on cassette that are not on CDG, but lack of demand and/or requests can be another reason. I've asked Sound Choice to put "Bobby" by Reba McEntire (whis is available on cassette) on CDG, and I was told that there wasn't enough demand for it. However, when we had the voting booth, the song got a number of votes. Having spent money to buy a CDG player, I refuse to buy karaoke cassettes so I guess I'll never get to sing "Bobby".
