I do, on a rare occasion "Sister Golden Hair" by America. I have done "Wichita Lineman" by Glen Campbell on a dare.lol...I know alot of people do "Walking in Memphis" by Marc Coen "Long Cool Woman" by the Hollies is a fun song. "Heart full of Soul" by the Yardbirds is a Classic. "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits needs to stay for me. "The Weight" by The Band is done occasionally.
I guess that would be my input. Posts: 440 | From: Kirkland, Washington | Registered: Jul 2006

Thanks Mark. At least some of you recognize these songs. I will always have to bring my discs with to prove I'm 1 to 1. And alot of these songs that I listed are 1 or 2 on a disc where alot of the other songs are sang. These were purchased in my early Kj'ing years.

I sing with an older crowd, so quite a bit has been, and are sung. I'm pretty close to what Mark suggested. You never know when a gang of older vacationing or visiting folks come around to sing and dry up the bar. LOL. I'm not a pro, but do private parties, there's a lot of newer stuff that's never touched, but I keep them 'in stock'.

You've never had ANYONE sing "Walking In Memphis" or "At This Moment?" Your singers must live under a rock. Seriously, maybe they are just too young.
I understand the need to keep the books to a useable size, but I wouldn't delete any songs just because you've never heard of them. I think it was Lonnie who said that if you have a good selection it's better than a book full of repeats.
I have to say that "At This Moment" hasn't been sung at my shows in a while, but it used to be I would hear that one nearly every weekend. "Walking In Memphis" I had sung at my show a month ago. (We have lots more country and retro music sung at the bar I work now, so I don't hear as much pop music).
My advice is to leave 'em all in.

Just as soon as you take them out someone will ask for it and then be mad that you don't have an old standard. Why do you want to remove them for more room on the hard drive or more room in you books? They can't be taking up that much space.

First off, the ones off the list I've done...I've noted songs on this list with an asterisk if I'm the only person I've ever known to try it:
"And I Love You So"--Perry Como "Blue Monday"--Fats Domino* "Just Once"--James Ingram (which I did "just once"...fortunately, I tried it on a dead night...LOL!) "Sister Golden Hair"--America "Battle of New Orleans"--Johnny Horton "White Sport Coat"--Marty Robbins "In the Still of the Night"--Five Satins "Up on the Roof"--Drifters (also do the James Taylor version, which I've grown to prefer) "I Only Have Eyes For You"--Flamingos "Still"--Commodores "Knock On Wood"--Eddie Floyd "Secret Agent Man"--Johnny Rivers "One in a Million You"--Larry Graham "Running Bear"--Johnny Preston* "Dang Me"--Roger Miller "By the Time I Get to Phoenix"--Glen Campbell "I Melt With You"--Modern English "The Weight"--The Band "Midnight Confessions"--Grass Roots "Tuff Enuff"--Fabulous Thunderbirds "Brick House"--Commodores "Sultans of Swing"--Dire Straits "Wicked Game"--Chris Isaak "Needles and Pins"--Searchers "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence"--Gene Pitney* "Chevy Van" (not "Chevy Man")--Sammy Johns "Elenore"--Turtles "Heart Full of Soul"--Yardbirds* "Let My Love Open the Door"--Pete Townshend "Wait a Million Years"--Grass Roots "Groovin'"--Rascals "Happy Together"--Turtles "Long Cool Woman"--Hollies "Kind of a Drag"--Buckinghams "Low Rider"--War "It's Your Thing"--Isley Bros. "Wildfire"--Michael Murphey "Walkin' in Memphis"--Marc Cohn "Wichita Lineman"--Glen Campbell "Sweat"--Inner Circle "Young Blood"--Coasters
And as an added bonus, the songs off that list I've NEVER heard done...
"I'm Still Crazy"--Vern Gosdin "Second Hand Heart"--Michael Johnson "Tragedy"--Thomas Wayne (not Wayne Thomas...this is one song I really want to try, BTW) "Without You"--Johnny Tillotson "Liar Liar"--Castaways "Johnny Reb" (not Johnny Red)--Johnny Horton "Soldier's Last Letter"--Ernest Tubb "Loose Talk"--Carl Smith "Bluer Than Blue"--Michael Johnson "Corrina, Corinna"--Big Joe Turner "Johnny Get Angry" (not 'Got')--Joannie Sommers "Clean-Up Woman"--Betty Wright "Your Love Amazes Me"--John Berry "Now That We Found Love"--Third World
Best,
Mark

Let My Love Open The Door/Pete Townshend-I've sung this, and during the intro I overheard someone say "I haven't heard this song in a long time." I love it when they say that! Lowrider/War-I've sung this (an octave higher than the recording, of course! LOL!) Walkin In Memphis/Marc Cohn-I've sung this and have also heard several other people sing it--LOVE this song!!!!
