Hiya singers! I'm a host, but I like to go out and sing at other shows. And different hosts run their shows differently. Here's my question:
Could you see your favorite karaoke host doing something else besides karaoke?
Here's my example. I know one KJ who is like a used-car salesman, always trying to sell me on his equipment. ("Looky here, I got a new 300+ CD changer, a new DVD player and a low mileage sub-woofer!!") and another could be a late-night DeeJay ("Oh yeah! Here's a little Pat Benetar coming at 'cha! A little number called, Hit me with your best shot!")
What's your KJ like?

Last night I witnessed a KJ "auctioneering" for applause to a non-responsive audience:
"OK, I see one person clapping down in front. Do I have two? Two? Yes! OK people, do I hear three? Three right there over in the corner! Can I get four..."

When I'm KJing I'm like a radio DJ. I let eveyone know the singer and whom they're singing to. I always make sure when the song is done to let the crowd know that the singer did a great job(however they sound) so everybody gets an applause. And depending on the singer I might just say something about the performance(especially if Ilike it).My boss is more subdued in the fact that he basically calls the next person in the rotation and that's it.

I knew one KJ who really wanted to be a radio DJ. This was problematic as the guy talked too damned much, thus wasting valuable time that could have been used on singers. Nice guy, though.
And yet another KJ friend of mine had a day job as a used car salesman, which may explain why he's such a smooth-talker.
Best,
Mark

I have faced this one for a long time. People cann't think of me beyond karaoke. I am the mother of two for many MY life outside karaoke is hard for many to comprehend.
I wonder what people are thinking about us KJ hosts, beyond the fantasy aspect you mention. We have had a movie star president, how about a karaoke host as president of the USA?

I know one KJ who would be a great Corrections Officer. On the other hand, I know another KJ who I'm almost sure is a Pimp on nights off!
Sometimes I think most KJ's have a background in Daycare. I'm also a teacher. People ask me what I prefer: Karaoke or Teaching...hmm...good question! Can I have a day where I entertain sober adults and teach drunk kids??!?!

I also know a KJ who is an elementary school teacher. I really don't know much about other KJ's that I've had in the past.

Well, one of my favorite KJ's could be a star in Broadway Musicals. He knows every word to every musical (or so it seems), never looks at the screen, and has an awesome voice and stage presence!
Another one of my favortie KJ's could be the the product of a scientific experiment gone horribly (right?) fusing the DNA of Actors: John Cleese, Jim Carrey & Dan Akroyd! Bwa hahahahah *Gasp* hahahahah

I'm a great motivator so I could see myself as a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. I couldn't resist. (No cheap shots about their losing streak) I'm still loyal to my team!
