Well, my five best songs aren't necessarily contest winners. Right now I'm trying to win a contest that runs every Tuesday for 10 weeks (you have 10 tries to win to enter the finals).
In the past, I've won contests with these songs (going from recent to past):
Who Let The Dogs Out - Baha Men White Lines - Grandmaster Flash Rapper’s Delight - Sugarhill Gang Pop Muzik - M Hungry Like The Wolf - Duran Duran One Week - Barenaked Ladies
But this crowd is relatively young and my 80's songs don't seem to be going over so well. I tried "Centerfold" by J. Geils Band last week and didn't place at all. After the contest I sung "Shake Ya Ass" and Eminem's "The Way I Am" and the crowd loved them... Why didn't I pick those for the contest? So, I think I might be able to win with one of these new releases:
It Wasn't Me - Shaggy & Rikrok Ducent Big Pimpin' - Jay-Z Butterfly - Crazytown Stan - Eminem & Dido Forgot About Dre - Dr. Dre & Eminem
I'm constantly checking the Billboard charts, watching top MTV videos, etc. to see what's popular and what's not. Then I assign myself rating points on every song I try (how well I did and how much I thought the audience liked them). Then I average all this out to find the winning song. Like BC, I'm a Virgo and it's in my behavior to do these analyses .
PS: Anyone know how "It Wasn't Me" sounds musically? Is it a male duet? Anyone try it yet? If so, how did it go over?

Unfortunately, my voice isn't really designed for rock at a contest grade level (not to say I can't sing it well), but if I want to win, it's either Broadway or Opera.
I doubt that most of you have heard of the titles I'd use, other than maybe "Mean Green Mother from Outer Space" and "Music of the Night". . . adding "Flesh Failures/Let the Sunshine In" once it's released.

l'op... don't sell us short, even PJ does a song from "Hair", We might know your fav's even if we don't share your interest. So go ahead ... List Them.
Anyway to the point at hand...
Dog Bad to The Bone Just a Gigolo Play That Funky Music Darlin' Nikki and Mack the Knife
Pony Piece of My Heart (Joplin not Faith Hill) Somewhere Over the Rainbow Dream On Out Here on My Own and White Rabbit
Outside of the imaginary contest, Pony also does an amazing "Shadowboxer", and "I Don't Know How to Love Him", while I will request "Good Times", turn off the monitor and do "Rappers Delight" (just 'cause it's funner).
btw: Pony is also excited about "Flesh Failures"

most of my contest songs would be Braodway stuff, because I can put a lot of power and feeling into those songs.

1.)Tuesday Afternoon 2.)Mr. Roboto 3.)Hello It's Me 4.)Come Sail Away 5.)Crystal Blue Persuasion (looking forward to a better version)
And in a, be careful what you wish for, vain- I have been practicing/attempting "I've Seen All Good People" and it's tearing me up. Maybe it will be easier in late Feb. without Jon.

"Rapture" -Blondie "Kiss of Fire" -Georgia Gibbs "Flashdance (What a Feeling!) -Irene Cara "Celebrity Skin" -Hole "The Man That Got Away" -Judy Garland
I'd try to decide what the crowd would go for- I'm not on the up-and-up with newer music, ironic because I'm 23- guess I was born in the wrong era, I think I'm a reincarnated torch singer-those are my best, but I have to cover a few more decades to not lose my college-aged crowd.

1. Enter Sandman - Metallica 2. Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down 3. Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry 4. Detroit Rock City - KISS 5. Free For All - Ted Nugent

Hi everybody! I'm a new member here and am glad to know there is a place like this to get ideas. Favorite songs....hmmmmmm. Toughy. It's so depending on the crowd. I've won with...
1. Bohemian Rhapsody Queen 2. Don't be Cruel Bobby Brown 3. My Sharona The Knack 4. Faithfully Journey 5. Y.M.C.A. Village People
Sometimes I just try to read the crowd and hopefully sing what they want to hear. I like to get them involved with the song. Y.M.C.A. althought corny, really gets people acting crazy. It's so fun to be able to get the whole bar putting their hands in the air making the letters!
But my favorite songs that have NOT won are.
1. Signs Tesla 2 At This Moment Billy Vera 3. Ain't Goin' Down Garth Brooks 4. Hurt So Good John Cougar 5. Radar Love Golden Earring music, but sang White Lion style!
Most place around Wichita go by showmanship, audience response and participation more than vocal ability, so I try yo go to the ones that have more of a taste for vocal ability so I can concentrate on the actual song. But if I'm in a crazy mood...look out! LOL

Contests make me want to pull my hair out but, if I had to pick my top 5 they would be;
1. Cowboy by Kid Rock 2. Loser by Three Doors Down 3. Push by Matchbox 20 4. Dragula by Rob Zombie 5. Born to Boogie by Hank Williams Jr.
Since this is a "Fantasy Contest" I'd also like to have judges that actually listened and watched the singers. Judges that have some knowledge of all types of music. Judges that aren't related to or sleeping with one or more of the contestants. And last but not least I'd like to see the most talented singer win a contest for once!
1. A spaceman came travelling (Chris DeBurgh) (only available on a Polygram Laser) 2. The reflex (Duran Duran) 3. If I never see you again (Wet Wet Wet) (only seen on a DVD) 4. Wonderwall (Oasis) 5. The wonder of you (Elvis Presley)
God Bless The U.S.A.-Lee Greenwood At This Moment-Billy Vera (SC2081 version.. ) Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad-Meatloaf Always-Bon Jovi Show Me The Way-Styx
Been workin' on "For Cryin' Out Loud" from SC2274. 8:51 is too long for a contest though.
