A spin-off from the "Top 5 Songs" thread:

Okay, here's one for everybody. List your personal "worst 5 songs" you've tried at Karaoke. I know these change from time to time as you try out new songs, but give me your 5 worst as of right now.

I'll go first...

1) Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
2) Beat It
3) Ghostbusters
4) Crocodile Rock
5) Oh, Carol

Alright, I started, so let's hear them.

1. Along Comes Mary
2. Young Girl
3. Killer Queen
4. Thriller
5. Camelot

It seems like I tank these every time I try them... and yet I keep trying.

My 5 worst would be Reunited, Just you and I, Up where we belong, Always and any and every other duet. Except Dont go breaking my heart. I sound alright when I'm singing them it just seems that the whole duet scene gets kinda of hokey. So sing solo and leave the sappy duets alone. HA HA HA!!!

I screw up 90% of the stuff I sing, so I'll reserve comment on this.

Best,

Mark

If I have to limit the worst to five, here they are -- in no particular order:

1. Bohemian Rhapsody
2. Lady Love
3. Can't Smile Without You (just can't find the key)
4. Hello, It's Me (ditto)
5. Space Oddity

Cheers,
Geezer

I just have to add one more...

Careless Whisper - Wham!

It might have helped if I knew the song better beforehand. But, when an attractive lady requests you to sing it... you're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. Never again!

OK, my worst ones recently (and before)...

1. Batdance (Prince)... "sung" this off an SAV disc, and then I knew why no-one else did it before...

2. Tequila (DK)... not really a song to SING...

3. The battle of New Orleans (DK)... this was a little too fast...

4. Slow hand (Pointer Sisters)... I thought it's a fine song, but it's far too high...

5. When the going gets tough (Version by Billy Ocean)... this is also too high; thank God Boyzone put out another, lower version!

Kurt,
I keep getting requests to sing Slow Hand by the Pointer Sisters - I can't sing along when anyone else sings it so I am sure it is a loser. I have been wondering about singing the Conway Twitty version, it much more from a guy point of view though (which might make it silly for me - not that I don't sing tons of guy songs).

My last big failure was You Drive Me Crazy - Britney Spears. I sang this one night helping someone who wanted my help and thought I did real good, but I tried it on my own and it was a disaster.

Grateful,
If it was the DK Crocodile Rock, might be worth another try on something else - DK just does not seam to be able to do well at Elton John.

I want to Come Over - Melissa Etheridge
Gloria - Laura Brannigan
Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler
I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston
Any song by Celine Dion

Not in any particular order. I only try to sing these at home.

My worst:

1) Fly To Angels
2) Peace Pipe
3) I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing
4) Angel (another A-smith)
5) Hook

The reason for this selection is NOT 'cuz I don't like the songs (love 'em in fact), it's the high range. It's a shame , too, 'cuz I use to LOVE singing Hook, but alas, my smoking habit has taken it's toll on my high range endurance .

Larri...

I haven't tried Crocodile Rock since that one time a few years ago. I have no idea what version it was. I might be able to do it nowadays, but I remember it was a complete disaster. I read the lyrics for about 30 minutes beforehand... but, it was too fast and I wasn't used to the wipe, "Crocodile Rockin'" would flash by real quick (where it sounds like croc-rockin'). And that's what threw me off.

To this day, my friends still remind me of the time I tried to "sing" it. Memories...

Well, everytime someone asks me to sing "Gloria" (Branigan) I try it again, and once again crash and burn!
One Night I trashed "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" (Elton John)
Tried "Do You Love Me That Much" (Cetera) killed that one
Did a really awful rendition of "You" (Candlebox)
And my other karaoke bomb would have to be the time I sang "Crazy On You" (Heart)

Worst five songs?

1) Photograph, Def Leppard (too damned high)
2) Foolin', Def Leppard (too damned high)
3) Unchained Melody, Righteous Brothers (blew it once, scarred me for life)
4) Symphony of Destruction, Megadeth (doesn't sound bad, it's just a voice killer)
5) Enter Sandman, Metallica (sounds good, but can't sing again after I'm done)

I can only come up with three really.

Warrior - Scandal: I sucked and blowed at this one
Tempted - Squeeze: maybe try it again, but for afirst time, uh uh
Sometimes - Britney Spears: did this one on Sunday. I'll stick to the uptempo britney

"Turn the Beat Around" - Gloria Estefan. I think I would've done better with the original Vickie Sue Robinson version...but boy, did I crash & burn on this one.

"Dreams" - The Cranberries. To quote my husband, "yodeling from Hell."

"The Metro" - Berlin. Couldn't find the key to save my life...

"Crazy for You" - Madonna

"Hey, Jude" - The Beatles

Okay, okay...I just found the original cheap on an '80s compilation (Wherehouse used bin special!), so there may still be hope for "The Metro"...

Deej: Don't give up on "Tempted" - it's worth it once you get it down.

My worst:
Unchained Melody (ok I dreamed I could get that high)
Baby Got Back (I'm too milque-toast-old-white guy for that, but I did get some laughs)
You'll Never Find by Lou Rawls
Kashmir by Led Zeppelin (I'm still gonna stick this one someday!)
Kiss From A Rose - why is it that sometimes I can do it but sometimes I'm totally BAD?

Keifer: Only trouble is it's much better suited for a male voice. Perhaps on a night I feel like exploring the bottom of my range

Here are the 5 worst songs I've done (in no particular order):

Somebody To Love QUEEN (Damn hard to do)
Johnny Are You Queer JOSIE COTTON (Never heard it, did it on a dare)
Don't Worry Baby BEACH BOYS (While I do many songs with falsettos, I just can't the falsettos right on a few Beach Boys songs)
One Bad Apple OSMONDS (Just terrible)
Nothing Left Behind Us RICHARD MARX (Did it for Karaoke Roulette, never heard it before)
