Cause it might be interesting, what was the last song set you did at Karaoke. Might be good to see what new stuff people are working on and how the progress goes.
Here's mine from last night
Is There something I should know - Duran Duran MM version virgin song of the night, not too bad Sounds like a keeper
One for Sorrow - Steps Regular CD A constant favorite of mine.
Pink - There You Go SBG version air...air... need air! This is one I'm stil working on, got the word down, but god I need an oxegen tank when I'm done
Tragedy - Steps Regular CD One of my traditional ending songs. Much more upbeat and suitable for a female voice than the BeeGees version

Hmmmmmmm, "Set" can (sometimes) mean only one song... last night, however, was a good night. "Jump, Jive & Wail" then "Reason To Believe" (Setzer and Stewart respectively).
As a result of Song Yen closing (here in Portland) some of the other venues have grown. Good for them, a drag for RC! I could (almost always) get at least 3 songs at SY even when the rotation went to 30+. RC is pretty good at managing that.
Anyway "2 song" nights are probably going to be the weekend norm around here.

I'm guessing by "set," you would include a night's worth of songs...so, here goes from last night (8-11):
"Mountain Music" -- as a duet -- went OK "Lay, Lady, Lay" -- Dylan -- I thought it went well, the KJs did, too...but it fell on deaf ears... "Take this Job and Shove It" -- as a duet (again) -- OK "Bitter Sweet Synphony" -- Verve -- that is a keeper.. "Mambo #5" -- Lou Bega -- I get asked to do this song virtually every night... "Love Shack" -- B-52s -- duet -- I still love doing this song... "Only Wanna Be With You" -- Hootie and the Blowfish...a goodie...

Well, between two locations, I really only sang two songs tonight. I won't count the last song because, well it was the LAST song and the lights came on and everyone was leaving. LOL Don't ya hate it when that happens?

Super large rotation last night, at least for around here. I got to sing twice and my buddy(the KJ) let my friend and I do the last song of the night. 1)Countin' Flowers On The Wall-E. Heatherly 2)Cowboy-Kid Rock Last song)The Beverly Hilbillies Theme to the tune of Keep Your Hands To Yourself(a little rappish version Tracy and I made up one night) All in all a good night. GaryC

Geezer: yep, you got it right. i realise sometimes you get in more songs than others. I think for me about 75% of the time is a 3 song night for me. I've been lucky to miss the nights that are really busy.
decided to go again last night, since I wanted some practice for an audition:
Bring Me Some Water - Melisa Etheridge Star disc that night's virgin song. Bit rough in the verses, but I got with it towards the end
Big Spender - Broadway Pioneer This was my audition song today, and this really helped. Here's hoping I get the part
Everybody Wants You - Billy Squire Doctor Music version aside from the last song the KJ wanted this night to be a rockin night so hey, who am I not to help out
Oops I did it again - Britney Spears SGB Version good closer and fulfilling a request. Used to have some note trouble the end of lines, but it's getting smoother each time

That would be last night (Saturday), and since the place packs, I did two songs (about all anyone could get in)"
"Anyplace is Paradise"--Elvis Presley Elvis is one of my specialties, and although I don't do as much Elvis as I used to do, I had to do some Elvis to commemorate his passing (will do some more Elvis at other shows during the week) and also because a couple of the girls from my office came to see me sing in a bar for the first time and they both knew I did Elvis 'cause I got talked into doing it in the lunchroom of my office by one of the other girls.
"Flowers on the Wall"--Eric Heatherly Normally I do the Statler Brothers version, but I had to try this new version 'cause I'm trying to be a little more contemporary.
Dan--where do you live in Canada? I was in Toronto for the weekend two weeks ago and noticed from the Yellow Pages that there are a couple of karaoke lounges in the phone book. I'm curious to know more about these places if that's where you are from.
Best,
Mark

We actually went out last night (Saturday)! I got in 3 songs:
Hooch- a couple of young ladies ALWAYS request that one of me, but they weren't paying attention! I'd already sung it and during the next rotation, they requested it! D'oh!
Superman's Dead- When I first purchased this CDG, I thought that would be an easy one...fact is, I hadn't heard it on the radio in months, so I didn't remember it as well as I thought! Well, I got the original cd and listened to it ad nauseum to ensure I didn't screw it up as bad the next time I attempt it. It went ok...still not up to snuff on it yet.
Ode To My Car- I brought my own All Hits disc, but the KJ had the SGB version in stock, so I thought, what da heck! Needless to say, I was quite disappointed. Somehow, SGB stuck in a few more beats in various points in the song that messed me up! Either that, or that pitcher of Killians Irish Red stuck those extra beats in there!

Mark, I'm just across the lake from you, in London. Don't know too much about the karaoke scene in Toronto, other than it seems like every few months somebody gets killed in front of an Asian karaoke bar.
Here in London, we don't have any dedicated karaoke bars anymore. We had one, and it was set up really nice, but the owner decided he'd make more money turning it onto a blues club. It was nice, because it opened at 7 every night, you could go in, practice, go to other bars after 9, and come back, or move on. But we do have an endless supply of bars doing karaoke, some much better than others. I think we have at least 40 or 50 shows a week to pick from.

Here's my set from last night... The first venue had a large crowd (about 60 people), and only about 6 singers. I did 6 songs in three hours (9 to midnight).
1. Who Can It Be Now - Men At Work 2. Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel 3. O.P.P. - Naughty By Nature 4. Insane In The Brain - Cypress Hill 5. Back That Thang Up - Juvenile 6. Rump Shaker - Wreckx-N-Effect
Crowd was starting to leave... So I went somewhere else to continue:
-------------------------------- 7. Insane In The Brain - Cypress Hill (at new venue) 8. Some Like It Hot - Power Station 9. I'm Alright - Kenny Loggins (special request)
The biggest hit was O.P.P. I got the best applause of all the songs sung that night . Later, some older guy approached me and said "So, what does O.P.P. mean anyway?" Hmm... I tried to explain it in nice terms.

When I go to Karaoke, it's always at my buddy's show.So I get to sing quite a bit!! Also because Im gonna be a host soon!! I guess I'll say my last three songs.
1.Sailing(Christopher Cross) 2.She's all I ever had(Rickey Martin~Spanish or English) 3.End of the road(Boyz 2 Men)that one is done as a trio, Usually we close the night with it.
Hey Mark Im from Toronto to,what places do you sing at?
[2]"All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down" - The Mavericks
[3]"Temptation Eyes" - Grass Roots
[4]"Vehicle" Ides Of March
[5]"On The Dark Side" - John Cafferty
All of them were crowd pleasers considering everybody else was doing "The Rose," "My Way," "The Dance," "American Pie," etc. I like doing songs that you don't hear every night. The audience appreciates it too!

I'm NOT from Toronto, I'm from Cleveland and was only in Canada a couple of weekends ago visiting some other folks I met over the Net.
I was seriously hoping to check out some of the karaoke action up north, but this was my first Canada trip and it took me a couple of days to get my bearings. I did notice that some places in Chinatown had karaoke, but I had no time to check them out.
What I wanna know about are those two karaoke places that were listed in the Yellow Pages. When are they open, etc. If I ever get back up there I definitely want to check those out!!
Best,
Mark
