Journey and renowned producer Kevin Shirley are currently in the studio creating a new album fronted by Arnel Pineda which is slated for release in July, 2008, to coincide with the beginning of the US tour. In his online diary, Shirley described the recording sessions as "wonderful, successful, stupidly creative" and said that "Sometimes you just know when there's history in the making."[10] In a statement on December 5, 2007, Shirley said "I was stunned at Arnel, who is a monster vocalist. He is the real deal. Just phenomenal."[11] When speaking about the upcoming album in a later entry in his diary, he said: "Just got back from Vegas last night, after mixing seven new Journey songs. They are outstanding... For the record, I think Arnel is 'the business!' - the guy can really sing! He handles the ballads with SO much heart, and belts the rockers as hard, and melodically, as anyone I have heard. The songs are sensational - wonderfully crafted and deep, and so focused, you may wonder where they all came from. And I'm being serious.... Check out CNN report:

Great story here. Check out the vids. WOW. Look away and you still hear Perry. Reminds me of a similiar story involving Tim Owens and Judas Priest. Thanks for sharing!

Ahh, technicalities. Since we’re getting technical….
You’re right, Steve Augeri (vocalist for Tall Stories) replaced Steve Perry. During summer of 2006 tour, Augeri suffered an acute throat infection that forced him to leave the tour.
After July 4th 2006 it was announced that he was being replaced on tour temporarily by Jeff Scott Soto (lead vocals for Yngie Malmsteen / Talisman). December 2006, Journey’s website announced that Soto was the new lead singer for Journey. On June 12, 2007, the band announced that Soto was no longer the lead singer for Journey. Therefore, the new frontman Arnel Pineda is not replacing Perry nor Augeri, he was replacing none other than Jeff Scott Soto. Regards.

Gregg stopped touring with them after the Frontiers tour when they got Johnathan Cain from the Babys. Gregg wanted to take some time off from the road and such. He appeared on a Santana album after that, from where he and Neil Schon came from before Journey.
