Call me and my show what you will. I've delt with the different lables people put on one another all my life. I've was called a Headbanger by the preps in school since all I listened to was rock. Call a poaser by the headbangers since I liked the Glam rock more than Heavey metal. A pot head since my hair was long. A phoney because I didn'tdo drugs at all(until I graduated. Long story. I've cleaned up since then).
I could go on and on.
We do are show once a week on Friday and every other Saturday. We work hard to keep the show to are standars. We put time into our shows that the singers don't see, (making fliers, the books, buying discs, and planning new things to bring in the business). We also put in time on private partys.
We also have "regular jobs" (what ever that is) that we pay the bills with. I started singing karaoke to fill the void that the lack of a band left in me. I started running shows to bring a more of the "You are the star" attitude to singers that some other shows miss (some times karaoke singers need to feel like they are doing more than singing someone else's song.)
So if this makes me a hobbiest are a proffesional in someone elses eyes, I don't care, as long as our show is the best it can be and the people who come to the show have fun.

Tim, too far north for me. I've seen Michael a few times (not as a host) but other karaoke venues and at a karaoke scene magazine Karaoke Fest. If I ever make it up that way I might check it out. It's also been fun reading Lil Op type comments again.

Neither Professional nor Hobbyist. I am the quintessential Karaoke Junky, addict, can't get enough, hold me back I gotta sing. 4-5 nights a week.
Though I don't have a regular gig, I do cover friend's shows on a regular basis. And most of the KJs I cover for have the bare bones minimum of equipment. I have a professional setup with mixer, power amps, vocal effects processors, monitors and what not. Singers really enjoy singing on my setup and bar owners want me to replace some of my friends. I tell them I'm not interested. A) I wouldn't do that to my friends and B) I don't know that I would want to lug all that stuff around to various places several times a week.
But I do enjoy running a show every chance I get. Mostly Office parties and Birthdays and Church Functions.
