Drinking on the job might go down in the sticks with all you hillbillies but in southern california the competion is KILLER. I got know time to be drinking unless it's a red bull with a jolt cola chaser. Anyway you keep on slamming those Jaggermiesters cuz I need one more gig to fill up my week. Peace , Love Roke.....

ha ha ha This "Hillbilly" already has a full week in a competitive area here in the "sticks".
Once in a while I have a few "too many", but because of my comedic Hillbilly personality, nobody really notices. I will NEVER drink too much that it will affect my job.
And in my one room schoolhouse, I learned it was: "no" time, instead of "know" time
"Y'all come back now, hear?"

We very rarely have anything with Alcohol in it when we are working. Have seen too many problems with it at other shows and besides. that is some expensive equipment, not to mention the discs, and don't want to take a chance on breaking anything. We are not prudes as to say that once in awhile we may have 1, 2 drinks tops but our rule is, If your gonna drink, your not gonna mess with the equipment.

When I do a show I'm lucky to even finish the one drink that I bough at the begining of the night. Now on the average I usually have 2-3 drinks during a show. Now that I'm on water because of my diet my voice is getting better. Seems even enough trade of for me.

Listen junior, get some experience before you post about things about which you have no knowledge. Your post tells me that you are probably below the legal drinking age. Your spelling and grammar suggest that you have just had your first beer, and it went to your over-inflated-ego laden head. The competition out here in the 'sticks' (lol!) is pretty stiff, but we do ok. I usually have a couple of beers during my show. Basic professionalism (go look it up, junior) keeps me from over-imbibing. There have been times when I've pushed the envelope, I just switch to iced tea or water. If 'rottenkaraoke' is what southern California has to offer, then I'll stay in the 'sticks'.

Just curious, how many of you drink on your day job? It's a job and I have to deal with rude and obnoxious drunks all night. I prefer to remain sober so I can deal with anything that comes up with a clear head. I'll do my drinking on my nights off.

Never had a problem with drinking too much as I only drink 2 or 3 lite beers during an evening anyway. This job isn't exactly one you can relate to a normal job,as it is a social-type of job,so you have to sort of go with the flow yet remain in control at the same time.I'm always getting people offering to buy me drinks, shooters, etc. I usually just say no thank-you, or come up with an excuse if they insist. A normal job it is not ! Posts: 219 | From: Hamilton,Ontario,Canada | Registered: Feb 2000

Rarely drink on the job. When I do, no more than 2. If people want to buy me a drink, I already have it worked out with the bartender to make me a "shot" of whiskey (water & coke for color). You don't offend the customer & you don't get wasted. http://www.lonmanproductions.comPosts: 1845 | From: Tacoma, WA, USA | Registered: Nov 1999

Hey Jimbodj!
It's very hard to compare the two... besides, some DJ's in here ... that IS their normal job!!
Personally, when I'm running the show, I MIGHT have a drink. It depends on the flow of the night... but usually, when I do, it's around 11PM or so... and I NEVER get wired!
ONE time, I partied up pretty good, and the crowd had a good time yukking it up with me as the alcohol really helped my dyslexia come out! LOL!

between setup, show, and bye bye's, we're usually at the venue for approx. 6 hours during which time 2 is the avg. drinks consumed. This is definately different than a "day" job...but that reminds me of a funny incident last friday...
We were setting up the show when someone at the nearest table groaned real REAL loud and wailed..."AW YOU'RE KIDDIN ME! THIS IS KARAOKE NIGHT? OH MY GOD!!!!" they then proceeded to debase, put down, ridicule, and scoff at karaoke the whole time we were setting up not 2 feet away...
Suddenly dog says loudly (with a huge smile on his face and pointing his finger at the table) "hey! I know what we can do this monday! We'll go to their work and laugh at their jobs!"
well...they stayed, and enjoyed the show and got up to sing and had fun! go figure!

I someone use that when someone gives me a hard time, "Do I go to your work and tell you how to do your job?"
It only works when they HAVE a job, some of my singers don't!
As for drinks, they are few are far between, I need to stay sharp and I am a total lightweight. Maybe a kamikazi, but I will sip it urr I welll schart talken liiike thizzzz! *Hick!*
