Here is a passionately idle thought I had this weekend. Being a child of the 60's, I often want to sing some of the old 2-3 minute tunes from that era (Beatles etc.) However, I also realize that if you are waiting an hour+ to get up, you don't want it to be over in 2:12 or so. Would any KJs consider a doubleheader for a singer doing a couple of those quickie 60s singles. It could be a refreshing influx as I imagine other people may be shying away from those shorties too. Could help balance out some of the rage stuff too. I know its subjective as to what's a short single but maybe some could be listed on a twofer page. Anyway,it's just an idea from a budding geezer.

What a cool idea Brian...I like it...and will use it eventually...maybe it'll make the next printing...but I do see a fair amount of work involved in identifying the two-fers....Any list you have would be appreciated

That is a really great idea. I too have fretted over doing a 2:00 minute song after having waited an hour. Nowadays, I just keep those to early in the night where I know that I'll get up twice an hour, but having the chance to do two in a row would be great.

Get there early and sing it as your first song. . . At my venue (and only when I jock on Saturdays), first five singers get two songs in a row, after that, I don't consider doubleshots for any reason.

I'd have to agree with you, L'op. If you don't get there early (to anybody's show)I believe you shouldn't be "rewarded" with another song...especially back to back. You could get away with it on a slow night but our nights are rarely that way now a days. Posts: 1201 | From: Kansas City, MO USA | Registered: Apr 1999

Pull out the TV themes disc, and you could pull off 4 or 5 in a row LOL. I agree with showing up early and getting the extra songs in. Then at midnight when everyone is waiting more than an hour, sing American Pie LOL.

On slow nights we do use the "Do 2" approach. It actually allows us to get more songs in because of the time it takes for singers to come to the stage area. Bob Prosing/Sound Escape Production

This one place around here allows you to do 2 songs in a row at the start of the evening. I enjoy doing something really mellow like "Everything I Do, I Do It For You" followed up with a blistering rendition of "Shout At The Devil." Posts: 1153 | From: Buffalo NY | Registered: Sep 2001

Pony, the latest and I assume previous editions of the SC catalogue list the times of the songs in the song title portion of the cqtalogue. You may want to try there first for your 2fers.

Twofers work really well to get things started early. I've used them for about 7 years on a slow night.

I agree that twofors need to be managed - but could be good, esp. when things are slow. Some thoughts:
A special two for one page in your book...
Limit each guest to one twofor per night...
Have a big rotating police light and siren that declares a 5 minute window on twofor submissions - and watch everyone scramble (well, except the regulars, who would be locked and loaded once they got wind of the routine)
Try a new tune - sing a standard for free. Even better - we pick the new tune for you...

I do a two song rotation. It works out great. They usually sing on "I'm gonna try this song", hen hit it with a regular ne they do. When I hit ten people on my list (which happens quickly), everyone gets one song thereafter. I announce it quite a few times before we go to one song. The regulars know my routine. If I see new singers in the house, I explain my rotation over the mic. I have never had a problem, and everyone seems to enjoy themselves.

Alright, From the digicat a list can be made and filtered in Excel by running time for a twofer page. Ya gotta delete alot of stuff and pick a cutoff time, though.

i always use 2fers when it's slow. like if there is 5 or less singers. otherwise, i would'nt mess with them. i get enough karaoke paranoia without encouraging it.

For me twofers go over well depending on the bar and the crowd. Sometimes I will be in a Rock bar doing a show with a two song per person rotation and you'd think they were gonna run the guy that just sang two country songs out of town. For the most part have had good luck with two song rotation. I only use it with 7 people or less though.
