Dick Clark and YBB is a great idea, but how does everyone feel about a regular TV show, nationally in support of Karaoke singers and the industry. Do you think it would work, and if the idea was to be presented to the TV networks with distributers like Sound Choice, Pro Sing, etc backing the shows with their karaoke products do you think such an idea would work, or not? With "Duets" coming out, and YBB being a spin off on Karaoke, why not have our own piece of the pie? As an opening each week a diffrent KJ from across the US could host the show, and the singers who win would get prizes from the manufacturers & distributers in the Karaoke industry. The publicity could boost Karaoke wide open, and our shows would prosper a lot from it too, just thought I would throw this out for discussion, now what do you think???

I'd watch karaoke on TV. But I hope it would be on a local station. I don't have cable.
I used to watch a lot of singing entertainment shows back in the 60's, like Ed Sullivan and even Lawrence Welk. Some shows were local and featured dancing to the latest Billboard chart hits. (Upbeat and the Big Five Show) These shows were so cool. Now all you get on TV is those stupid sit-coms.

i saw a show on VH-1 months ago called "karaoke caberet" with a bunch of celebrities singing karaoke songs, and guess what? ..they were all sound choice tracks it was a good show

Any real karaoke singer knows that that MTV karaoke show is completly stupid!!!!

The MTV "Say What Karaoke" show has people 'singing' to the original artist track - not karaoke tracks.
The VH1 show "Karaoke Cabaret" called us to use SC tracks for their show. The idea for the show came out of a pitch from 2 KJs that did a show in Manhattan - and who promptly got axed after the first show.
It was fun, but I think the budget was more money than VH1 wanted to spend. I think they only produced 2 shows. The second one had Sting singing "Don't You Want Me Baby"/Human League.
I haven't heard anything else about it, but I would think it possible that it may resurface in the fall if "Duets" is a hit.

Speaking about Sting, karaoke & VH-1, I was watching Pop up video last night- Apparently on the shoot of "Desert Rose", Sting wandered away from the set. . . . They found him a half an hour later singing "Do You Think I'm Sexy" at karaoke. Posts: 1691 | From: USA | Registered: May 1999

All that I can say is if a show is well planned and produced-sign me up! What great exposure, but I would not do something as tacky as MTV's SayWhatKaraoke. I was interested at first, but after seeing the it for the first time, I was disgusted by the cheesiness added to a past time which many talk badly about anyways.
Taste makes a good show (though I do like some tasteless shows, it's different when they base the show on making fun of a really awesome hobby and career for us.
