Good God, Mad Maxx certainly has a long wish list!!! I don't see any problem with separating hard metal from hair band stuff. That way I wouldn't have to buy the thrasher trash along with the mainstream hair band greats from the 80's. If it didn't get huge mainstream radio play, I certainly don't want it in my collection cause it would never get sung. Dokken, Winger, Skid Row, stuff like that is what I want not all the stuff that has just screaming guitars overpowering the lyrics. IP: Logged |

I don't want to interrupt the natural 'flow', but... here are a couple tidbits. KWO: "Fly Me Courageous" - February/2001; so you can omit that one from your future lists. Maxx: Dream Theatre and Yngwie are beyond the Endangered Species list, okay? As someone who has learned from years of prudent experience (plus three marriages) to Never Say Never: I, personally, will probably never make those. In my opinion, they're just not for Sound Choice (nothing personal - it's just business). Sorry, but that's a cap on that.
You got some AC/DC, Def Leppard, Dokken, Rainbow (Street of Dreams), Judas Priest, Scorpions, Ozzy, Alice, Twisted Sister and Krokus. On the hairier side, there is Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Autograph, Damn Yankees and Ratt. It's too late to stop now! (but don't waste the space asking for the song lineup)

actually bc, yngwie's latest album has outsold groups such as the backstreet boys, britney spears, nsync, ect worldwide.. just not here in the usa go to japan, or europe and canada and look at some of the hard rock charts, Yngwie has been #1 with every album he's released in the 90's . that's 11 albums since 1990 but thanks for vol 8..looks great so far, especially rainbow IP: Logged |

BC..have you ever even heard "heaven tonight" go listen to it and then you tell me it's not "karaokable".. if you still think that, then let ME pay for the "rights" to do it and i'll come down and record the guitars myself for free!! and FYI yngwie since '84 has sold over 20 million records worldwide! At the risk of being argumentative, I have two points. And I hope I don't come off as harsh or biting here, because that isn't how I feel. First, I apologize if I'm not communicating this clearly enough: I'm saying Yngwie is not "karaokeable". It doesn't matter how many records he sells. In this context, it only matters how many customers of SC want to sing any of his songs. So far, I count you, and, possibly, one or two others. That's what makes it non-karaokeable. Not because nobody can play it or sing it. Because not enough people want to sing it. Of course, I would have said the same thing about Type O Negative last year, but.... Secondly: You can add up all the Hard Rock charts from every country in the world. It won't equate to one Billboard "Pop" Chart. You're trying to tell me that Yngwie has sold more than 4-5 million records? On any of his records individually? I'd be surprised if every album he ever recorded added up to 5 million sales (but I don't know, either). He could be Number One for a solid year in Japan, Europe and Canada, and it still won't add up to the totals put up by any of those teen artists. It's like Martina Navratilova said years ago about female tennis players competing against male tennis players. Somebody asked her if she could beat any of the men ranked in the Top Ten. Her answer was that the Number One female player wouldn't have a prayer against the Number 100 male player! I'm not talking about subjective taste, musical quality or chops. I'm talking about dollars and sense. Like I said earlier, it's just business. Glad you're looking forward to HB, Vol. 8.

Akron, Ohio is HOT for Metal and Rock on karaoke and that's pretty much all you get in the Akron area. People appreciate it around here. IP: Logged |

Also: Headbangers, Vol. 8, (otherwise known as Power Ballads Only Your Girlfriend Would Love - just kidding) ships in October. There are only 2-3 songs that could be remotely considered as close to Power Ballads. So don't sweat it! You got some AC/DC, Def Leppard, Dokken, Rainbow (Street of Dreams), Judas Priest, Scorpions, Ozzy, Alice, Twisted Sister and Krokus. Steve: RE: "Korn, Britney Spears, Limp Bizcuit, Kid Rock, Pearl Jam, Nirvana and stuff like that has sold 4 to 5 million yet? I seriously doubt it." Other than possibly, Korn (and I don't know), it is an RIAA certified Fact! And those numbers would be applied to 1 disc, not their entire catalog. Even Pearl Jam, in their declining years, has sold over 800,000 on their last two deathbed releases! Nirvana? Are you kidding? The record with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is probably over 10 million by itself. Hell, Matchbox 20 has sold over 10 million! Britney's first CD did over 8 million; this one is already over 4 and climbing.
OK - touché, on the 20 million. It still doesn't add up to the teenyboppers' totals - and never will. But 20 mil is nothing to sneeze at. It doesn't matter how many records Yngwie sells. The demand is not there as compared to real heavyweights, not to mention the newer upstarts. That dog still don't hunt! PS - BTW, Maxx, it has nothing to do with "this music". We're talking about individual artists, not "this music". If "this music" were the issue, how would we be talking about Volume 8 of "this music"? IP: Logged |

BC..i meant yngwie in particular for "this music" how many people does it take to make "sense" for you to record this song ps. i wasn't kidding about paying for the rights and recording the guitar parts for free.. i can play like him and also paul gilbert, george lynch, impellitteri, ect IP: Logged |

Just out of curiosity, Max, if you really can play exactly like Malmstein, why in God's name would you be badgering BC to make a karaoke disc instead of marketing a nearly unique skill? IP: Logged |

there is a difference between playing malmsteen and writing malmsteen music. i got tired of the band scene and moved into the karaoke scene years ago. although i am in the process of recording an album of original songs and instrumentals that are influenced by yngwie, paul gilbert, dokken, ect.. but the release of this cd will be just for me and the local area i live in and the students i teach.....i wouldn't want to get signed to a record deal again, i'm quite happy with my life the way it is. and i never said i played exactly like him, i can emulate him and a few others very well [This message has been edited by MADMAXX (edited July 28, 2000).] IP: Logged |

Grateful, You left some really good picks... One probably, obviously a typo from not being able to read your friends writing... In regards to Fishbone, I believe you meant Firehouse... The one song "All She Wrote" is great and I would like to see that on a future disc. Also, Def Leppard's "Women" is awesome. Even though it wasn't there most popular songs from Hysteria in a matter of Airplay, it was the first single from that disc and I think should be on a future disc as well. Also, you mentioned Dokken... We need Breakin The Chains!!!! And More Rush - Spirit Of Radio, Working Man, Subdivisions, Distant Early Warning, Show Don't Tell, Stick It Out, Closer To The Heart IP: Logged |

Oh my God. That is quite possibly the best line up since Headbangers 1. You couldn't have picked a better Dokken song (IMO). Holy crap. It's pretty damn close to a perfect disc; it's not all screaming-MiMi songs, but has plenty of the hard stuff for raspy voices. I haven't been this excited about a disc since Three of a Kind Vol 2. BC- you nailed the sh!t out of this one. IP: Logged |
