We all have them, the one song that gets your blood so hot you almost have to leave the room when you hear it. "Ring My Bell"- Anita Ward. Even as a child, I wanted to attack anyone singing that infernal song. IP: Logged |

"Goodbye Earl" "I Will Survive" "Higher" "Wanted Dead or Alive" * none of these songs is bad, per se (in fact, I like "Higher" and "Wanted Dead or Alive"), it's just that they're so over-done at karaoke) [This message has been edited by dennybozz (edited March 08, 2001).] IP: Logged |

I Will Always Love You... (although it is rather funny when someone dedicates it to their loved one, not taking into account that it ISN'T a love song, but a break up song... giggle) IP: Logged |

i have to second "i will love always love you" , i forgot about that one. i can't believe how many people asked for this one as their bridal dance song, i then had to ask them if they have actually LISTENED to the words, the quickly changed thier minds. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I like to be professional so if it's a song that has been done over and over I think of rolling my eyes but squelch it- "Friends In Low Places", "Summer Nights". Any song done by someone overly drunk is actually to the point of being offensive. IP: Logged |

I can't stand the Metallica version of "Turn the Page." And what's that song that has "I want to F*** you like an animal..." as part of the lyrics? I could never stand that song. I also can't stand "Otherside." It always rubs me the wrong way when someone starts singing about slahing their wrists. To Alice Cooper's alter Ego: I've never heard anyone do the Celine/Babs duet of "Tell Him." IP: Logged |

Cueball... The "I Wanna *&^% You... " song is Closer by Nine Inch Nails... And funny you should say that... if I sing that song, I don't pay for a THING the rest of the night... <g> IP: Logged |

Uh huh, and what kind of venues do you frequent? Hey, Cue. I'd have to disagree with the assessment of "Otherside". If you really listen to the song, you can hear the pain and angst in every chord. IMO it's the most powerful song they've ever created. . . not even "Under the Bridge" had so much raw emotion infused into it. Summer Nights? PBTDL? The Rose? they could sing these songs as often as they want to. After I get the song started for them, on go the headphones with something good playing on them, the singers think that I'm just cueing up the next song.... Little do they know..... IP: Logged |

Cue Ball- I have 6 women who sing this damn song. One of the pairs sing it operetic style and it is absolutely the most migraine inducing song i have ever heard. Another song I can;t stand- Feel Like Makin' Love. It just goes on and on and on like bad sex. IP: Logged |

Top of the list: The Rose. Seems like there's two kinds of singers...those who can sing it, and those who actually do sing it. Close second: Greatest Love of All. I remember the first time I heard this song...it was the video, and as soon I as I saw S**tney smile sweetly and sing "I believe that children are our future", I knew deep in my heart that I would hate that song forever, yet I would be unable to escape from it. Category of songs: Slower Eagles crap. Their songs aren't ten minutes long, they just seem that way. For "Lyin' Eyes", closer to twenty. I'm GREATLY looking forward to being able to sing "Don Henley Must Die" (though I've been known to sing "Dirty Laundry" on occasion)... While they've been run well and truly into the ground, I can still cope with Summer Nights, Goodbye Earl, Crazy, Love Shack, Devil Went Down to Georgia and PBTDL if they're done halfway decently; the problem is that they usually aren't. Friends in Low Places is a special case, IMHO, since while it's almost always done badly, it was practically *made* to be sung badly by groups of drunk cowboys or frat boys, so it never sounds too "wrong" to me no matter how badly it gets butchered. I'm surprised that Alanis and Shania haven't been mentioned yet. Most of the others mentioned in previous messages have gone through their phases of being overdone where I'm at, but not lately. l'op -- gotta agree with you there... ![]() Heck, even the Weird Al version ("Jurassic Park") couldn't save that one... Forgive me for these choices: "Honey, I'm Home" -- very overdone (I liked it the first 10,000 times I heard it) Cheers, PS: Wonder why no one said "Mambo #5"...which may have become my signature song... Yes, Love Shack and Seger's Turn The Page, Crazy and Shania's frequently done songs. American Pie also. These are also heard over and over on CD form. IP: Logged |

Sorry, Star...it's just that I seem to be the only one doing that song...and the KJ sometimes puts it in for me when I DON'T request it... ![]() Of course, I won't talk about "Love Shack" -- because that's in the "Guilty Pleasures" folder..<g> Cheers, IP: Logged |

I'm astounded that nobody (especially the vociferous l'op) has hit the Titanic theme. If I hear "My Heart Will Go On" wheezed out one more friggin' time..... Just seeing that song on a request form makes me scrunch my cheeks (no, not facial)....even if it's not my show. The only exception is a particular musician that comes to the show....HIS version is a riot. IP: Logged |

Wow! Quite the list compiled...sure hope SC doesn't get the wiggy notion to produce new compilations: "Songs to make yer eyeballs bleed" followed by a Rap version "Yo, Ax Me If I Care Ma Liver Jes Esploded" and then the Country Classic "Tunes to Ressurrect yer Dawg"...then..."Disco Sucks Some More"...."BroadOyVey Classics"...oh stop me 'fore I kill again!! Just getting back from the bar early and I was thinking to myself, if I have to hear one more country song sang out of key by some drunk who couldn't carry tune if Garth Brooks was singing next to him I could live the rest of my life a happy man. P.S. If God did away with country music I'd do a little dance IP: Logged |

Leigh, the ship song annoys me much, but as bad as it is, I've never actually wanted to beat a karaokeist with a baseball bat for screeching it out. (one local lady does come awfully close though. . . she created her own new melody line, which, while not screechy, is certainly a candidate for a rotten tomato) [This message has been edited by l'opera voce (edited March 12, 2001).] IP: Logged |
